Do we have too many expectations?

And yet, here it is, hindering literally everything.

This is the most important factor to me. The game could use the whole 10 years of work…for sure…but…for what it currently is…that quote right there at least hits a home run in most cases.

My expectations were what they promised. And they didn’t meet that expectation. Like Cortana said “don’t make a promise you can’t keep”

The trick to Capitalism is to understand your target audience, knowing that profits are maximized when expectations and desired qualifications are met or even surpassed.
Something that 343 has lacked from their very first actual game.

All 343 cared about with Halo 4 was adding more and more and more, not stopping to think “Are we doing to much? We are changing a lot of core things in the gameplay, art style, and sound design. Are we even making a Halo game or are we just making a Sci-Fi shooter game and then calling it Halo?”

No. Every other main-series Halo up to this point has been able to say “I am the complete package now. Whatever you could do in past Halos, you can do here, and even better”. It was not unreasonable for players to expect Halo Infinite to do the same.
But instead it’s nowhere near the complete Halo package, 9 months after launch, and it’s almost as if they’re leaning on MCC as a crutch, where we should go play that if we want variety, so it’s ok for Infinite to stay feature and content limited for a long time

Well, to be fair, Halo Infinite went through three other builds until 343 settled on Build No.4 to become the final build of the game. And then came the pandemic which slowed production down.
Just a quick explanation of how a reported budget of $500,000,000 produced a game that is only like 1/8 complete; as the Final build only started production in 2019.

Considering Halo Infinite is the most bare bones Halo launch with the worst monetization we’ve seen I’d say no, our expectations aren’t too high. In contrast I’d say not enough players have high enough expectations. We should be outright protesting this game refusing to spend money on it or even play it.

Where did the budget come from? Previous halos advertising? Genuinely curious not being sarcastic

Do We Have too many expectations?

Na, I just want the basics fixed that is all !!

and the Custom Games Area fixed!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

Pretty much every article I can find says it was around $500,000,000

Bear in mind, videogame budgets account for the game development, salaries, equipment, software licensing, marketing (which is often equal to the cost of the development of the game), etc.

It’s still 343’s fault that the addition of features and content post-launch is happening so slowly, and that they haven’t replaced or overhauled their development tools to speed things up.

Well, considering that they are understaffed, I can actually sympathize with them on this point.

My own place of work has a staffing issue that we have been dealing with for a little over a year, with the past seven or so months being especially difficult.
Currently we are staffed at somewhere around 3/5 capacity.
We have been trying to hire more staff members and yet every time I see we have had 5 successful interviews, I only see 3 employees slated for training, and even then 1 leaves during training and typically one more leaves within a month.
And whenever we gain someone, we seem to have to lose staff.
In my shift alone we have lost four people JUST as we gained two, and then I clocked in after my weekend to find that “K” has left our employment after only three weeks of being out of training.

If 343 is encountering something similar; I can understand the reason why the development is so slow.
I myself am working 60 hours a week because of our staffing issues, and I don’t even develop anything (Security Supervisor).
With how crunch-time has become the status quo for most videogame companies these days, I wonder how many people are dropping out because of the work hours and effort being put in.
The staffing issues have been so problematic that it seems that 343 has done away with that whole “do not hire Halo fans” rule that they put in place when their company was getting up and running.
Hopefully with that hiring rule now gone, more employees can pour in that both want to do the job AND want to do it right.

Hit the nail on the head. And the fact that desync STILL has not been addressed added with an abysmal MMR system sunk this game so quick.

There is no trick to Capitalism it’s just poison.

People don’t like microtransactions. Mainly, because every time they’re introduced, we somehow get stuck with more and more BS.

$20 dollar armor sets? No. That’s not a fair price. We’re getting a single armor set for $20. Am I just old now? I remember armor packs being no higher than 10 and they came with multiple sets of armor.

21 is not very old but damn. When I was 15, it seemed prices for gaming were a lot cheaper.

Summary

Anything taken to the extreme, or just on its own, is poison.
Capitalism works because it works with the Human Nature of Greed. However, too much of it and you start developing problems left and right.
Capitalism with small doses of Socialism tends to balance it out. Labor Laws, Unions, Workman’s Compensation, Benefits, and OSHA help keep Capitalism in check to prevent it to get out of hand.

Though those with too much greed always try to find a loophole around these checks and balances.

True.
Sadly, there are people like this odd bloke in the image below

If we were delivered what we were promised and we still complained, then I’d say yes. However, 343 failed to deliver a good Halo experience like they told us and everyone is rightfully disappointed.

Summary

People are not naturally selfish. Capitalism is a recent development. Trade has always existed, but trade is not capitalism.

Full Socialism.

No people are greedy.
Just to different degrees.

Not to sound religious or anything, but we all have the 7-Deadly-Sins to varying degrees.
Am I Lazy? Yeah, but not so much that I don’t take care of my home and ignore my duties. But I do prefer to sit around.

The reason I said Capitalism works well with the Human Nature of Greed is because everyone tries to negotiate the best deal out of a transaction. It’s not perfect, which is why some Social Work is needed to level it out.

Communism on the other hand was an economic system that doesn’t work well because all it takes is one greedy son-of-the-dog-that-beat-Johnson-over-the-fence to start hoarding wealth for themselves and their buddies. Stalin took power and then promoted his buddies to tip the scales further in his favor.

As for Full Socialism?
There are similar problems with that as well.
Just look at Venezuela’s problems.

I am a believer in a form of Egalitarianism.
Equality and Equity of course, but an Equilibrium needs to be maintained between parties, isms, and policies.
But with a need for balance to be found in many aspects of life.
Can’t lean too hard one way or the other, because the extremes of either side just leads to more problems.
Best to find a focal point to balance upon.

Topics need to stay on the rails
