Do we determine what Halo is or does 343?

Here is a thread on BNet that is related and I posted this:

The more I think about my own quote the more I see it true. No matter what 343 does or what 343 did we made Halo what we wanted it to be. Grifball, Infection mini games, MLG/competitive, etc.

At the end of the day no matter what you think about the “final” game you can change it to what you see fit, what you think is fun, and what makes you continue to play Halo.

Without the fans/community nobody would play Halo, and without the developer nobody would make Halo.

It’s a 60%-40% ratio, the 60% being the developer.

Think at this way: if you are developing a product you will think what the community will like, see and beyond. Basically if 343i never listened to community future halos will be doomed.

Sure the developer makes Halo but that’s not what I was referring to.

This thread is more of a “What makes Halo Halo” thread. I put it more on the community than the developer in that situation.

You’re wrong.

The developer makes the game what they want. You can only make the game your own within the parameters the developer defines, and they narrow or widen them according to their desire not ours.

Your quote is only in any sense true because the developer allows it to be.

If you think about it those are some pretty big perimeters they give us to make it how we want it.

In a way, the devs have to be fans too.

I feel like 343 has to do there own thing to some extent. If you listen to the community too much, there is a chance of bad ideas getting into the game (Armor Lock). A game developer shouldn’t let the community dominate them, although they should listen to them a little bit. The right ratio is tricky, but I think 343 is handling it all quite well so far.

I don’t see why this thread was moved because it is relevant to Halo 4

No, I decide.

Hence the term we

i can agree with this statement. nicely put

Because the game the developer wants is one the fans can tune to their tastes or create things the developer never conceived of in. If 343 determined that they did not want to make that Halo we fans could determine nothing. Not even the powers of capitalism really hold sway, they could turn a nice profit just on name recognition (like Sonic does).

We are lucky that Halo is in the hands of Halo fans.

No no no no no no no.
Not “WE”

I decide.Just me.FOR I AM!

They already went wrong by forcing jet pack, auto sentry, regen field, and active camo into AAs still.

OP assault rifle. Needs a slight damage nerf and just about 12 more rounds to compensate.
[Increasing its kill time, its a bit to fast and easy.]

Everything else is great.

343 decides what Halo is. They’re nice enough to listen to what we want and implement SOME of it, but ultimately, Halo is whatever they decide Halo should be. No matter what they do to it, there will still be people who buy it because it’s Halo.

Shouldn’t someone official decide what halo is? I’m the official waypoint squeaker so… LEAVE IT TO ME [Tails’s voice]

[:p]

The assault rifle is good… It’s not overpowered. Mostly 343i but we do our part.

You’re forgetting campaign. That is what Halo really is. We have no say in that. We can’t change it either.

It’s the community and the developer in a roughly 50-50 ratio, albeit only because the developer chooses to make the game so configurable.

They Make Halo

We make Halo Popular

People change it to make it what they love

  • Halo has changed a lot over the years
it will continue to do so all we can do is hope the the best
