do UNSC fighters launch via launch tubes?

So being a massive BSG fan I was introduced to the relatively mind blowing idea of Launch Tubes in space (and have proceeded to make a standard in all my military sci-fi writing) anyway I was wondering does the UNSC use Launch Tubes for their Fighters. Initially I said no because its Halo it has weird things like exposed bridges like most sci-fi but I was thinking over Halo 4 and the Infinity launched at least a portion of its Pelican’s via Launch Tubes and it got me thinking does it employ them then?
this is the kind of launch tube I was thinking

They might. Heck I think a few Frigates use launch tubes on the Infinity as well.

Yep they did the tubes are on the belly of Infinity.

The Infinity has launches tubes which are capable of launching small aircrafts and frigates.

Slightly off topic, how do launch tubes work? I thought that they were literally just a tube, but then surely it would be better to have large, open hangars. Do launch tubes increase the speed of the outgoing ship or provide any benefits?

multiple levels of airlock’s and they may be useful for in atmosphere launches, though often large open hangars are better, which is why the UNSC seems to use a mix of both, for example the pelican launch tubes aboard infinity during shutdown, and the hangars commonly seen aboard UNSC frigates

Ah ok, so basically there is no benefit, except being harder for enemy dropships to get inside.

well also a hull breach is less likely to neutralise large sections of a ship because of the possibility for multiple airlocks, and long launch tubes act as runways for in atmosphere deployment

They’re some good points, but I think I still prefer the idea of large, open hangars. They take up less room (as you still need a hangar to keep your fighters in, plus a long tube) and can be more versatile and carry larger things. But anyway, we’re getting off topic now. Thanks for your help.

The Infinity has launch tubes?

All I remember was the catapult/mass driver/thing that was used to launch Chief in the Pelican Gunship in Halo 4.

this is the kind of launch tube I was working off
battlestar Launch Tubes

that’s a Launch Tube because that’s what they do

Oh. I call those catapults and mass drivers.

I’d assume the Infinity could launch fighters that way, though the Longsword and Broadsword seem to at least have some kind of STOVL or VTOL capabilities, so I think it might be a bit pointless.

I’d endorse launch tubes for fighters if viable because it gets them up to attack speed more efficiently and are more safe than a large/exposed hanger for reasons you gents have already addressed

Don’t both Halo and BSG have both launch tubes and a hangar - with the hanger for returning/docking ships and cargo; and the launch tubes for getting ships out at optimal speeds?

The only reason I ask is because every time we’ve seen fighters launch they haven’t like POA in Halo CE their Longsword launches from a Hangar Bay and in Spartan Ops they deploy at least a portion of their Pelican’s from the Hangar despite having Launch Tubes dedicated to Pelicans (because they’re larger then Broadswords) and we only see a Launch Tube once

Pretty sure that the UNSC has em, yeah. As well as normal hangers for dry-launching (we know Infinity has both). More than likely the UNSC has even more options because what are humans if not adaptable to anything?
