That’s the whole point though. The AR is easier to use, but doesn’t offer as much reward for skill and practice due to its RNG heavy nature. The other is stronger and offers a direct skill based advantage of mastered.
I find the sidekick slaps people pretty hard, but that’s because I can consistently kill in 8-9 shots with it which almost guarantees I’ll beat AR users in a straight up fight.
People have been saying this since the second flight. The AR is too good. It needs its headshot modifier removed and a range nerf. Radar needs to be back to AT LEAST 25m, if not more. Infinites sandbox has much higher ranges than basically every other Halo game. It feels like I’m getting challenged by basically every weapon at basically any range. As long as someone sees me, they’re doing meaningful damage, and that feels bad.

Absolutely. I’m not saying every weapon needs to be viable in Onyx and Diamond, but they should all be somewhat viable until high Platinum in objective gametypes. However, I just can’t ever see anyone using the Ravager,the Pulse Carbine, or the Plasma Pistol over the UNSC hitscan weapons.
Not really, it’s been like this in every game besides 5. And it’s not like we currently have a shotgun which allows that sort of camping. And the range doesn’t stop camping since you tend to be 2ft from the chokepoint anyway.
AR is fine. The mag is small enough that if your movement is on point, they will run out of ammo long before killing you. Pistol usually beats ar too.
Maybe the bigger problem is the connection issues the game has and not the ar/br match up. I know there’s been plenty of matches where guys take a whole br mag before the shields even break yet other times it’s 4 burst dead.
The Meta in GOW doesn’t nearly have as big of a sandbox as halo. You can’t compare the two.
The problem is that the AR stakes very little skill and shreds with easy headshots. It doesn’t feel like classic halo. That would be like them making the AR in gears so good that using the shotgun would be pointless. It’s not the same in comparison to halo but you can see how much that would change the game.
The BR doesn’t need touched be a it first it’s role perfectly, it could make use a very slight range nerf in the slightest change.
The AR isn’t meant to be a main weapon and right now it’s just simply to good. It’s makes so many other weapons useless and takes a fraction of skill to use.
2 plays nothing like CE. Introduced dual wielding and vehicle boarding.
3 made sweeping changes over 2’s movement speed and how guns handled. BR was no longer hitscan. Equipment introduced
Reach straight up threw everything in a blender and plays almost nothing like 3 beyond the fundamentals. Armor abilities introduced, and the DMR is arguably the most broken OP gun every seen in this franchise.
4 made further changes with loadouts, perks, a new faction of weapons with unique traits.
5 went even further with Spartan abilities like built-in thrusters at all times, ground pound, clamber, then you had REQs etc.
Anytime someone says “Classic Halo” I think of Smash Bros Melee puritanism. This series has drastically changed in some capacity with every new entry.
Like it or not, the AR is meant to be the main weapon in Halo Infinite. Why people take an issue with this when the Sidekick is straight up a better gun is beyond me.
Also, the AR isn’t better than any weapon that is actually good. You always swap it out for the BR, Shock Rifle, Stalker Rifle, Needler or Bulldog. On the other hand, it’s kept over bad weapons like the Plasma Carbine and Disruptor which are fodder only ever in your hands during a game of Fiesta. You keep the Sidekick when finding a new gun because of its rapid swap and solid damage.
I always thought it was weird when people say AR takes no skill because tracking is a skill, but OP opened my eyes with “holding down fire with aim assist doing all the work.”
I guess it really does take less skill with aim assist helping you out.

The game gears of war literally starts you with the Lancer in your hands at the beginning of every game and every life…by logical definition…that makes it the MAIN WEAPON.

For the AR i feel they just need to increase the speed at which the bullet spray takes effect so you have to learn to burst fire it properly. I think if they did that one thing it would balance it out a bit better without having to change ither things to compensate, i had a lot of fun learning to use the ar in 4 and 5 properly. Infinite, just way easier. The point at which i feel i need to “controlled burst” is a bit to far, needs to be a tad closer.
As for radar, yeah i feel it needs to be a bit farther as well.
