Okay, some with thing that gets under my skin, just a little, are all the player complaints I see about the REQ system…mostly people saying that it ruins the game. I, personally don’t understand this. I have seen people saying that the REQ system ruins the entire game or that the game was built around the REQ system.
The only things that the REQ system directly effects the Warzone game modes…which are only like 3 or 4 modes. The REQ system doesn’t effect anything else. The only thing the REQ system would effect in any other game mode is your armor setup which is completely cosmetic and does not effect the gameplay what so ever.
And even in game modes like Warzone where the REQ system does come into play, it doesn’t effect the gameplay all that much. Just because someone gets a high tier weapon doesn’t mean there isn’t a chance they won’t die the instant they get onto the battlefield. Same thing with the vehicles. Just because someone gets a high tier tank or something doesn’t mean they don’t have a chance to get boarded and hijacked as soon as they pull out onto the battlefield. While, yea, the REQs can offer a slight edge in battle, they do not ultimately mean someone will win or not according to their REQs.
I don’t know if people are upset because there are microtransactions involved or not. I mean, like 90% of all REQs at least obtained from REQ packs can be obtained through enough play and grinding. Or you could drop some cash and get everything without grinding. Some people don’t have time to grind out for weeks or months to get everything. That being said…the previous statement comes into play where REQs don’t always guarantee a win in a game. And you don’t have to have the REQs to play/enjoy the game so I don’t think people are right in saying it’s a Pay-to-Win type situation.
So, I personally say that the REQ system does nothing negative to the game. What are your takes? Do you think people are right to complain about the REQ and say it ruins the game? Feel free to share your thoughts on how you feel about the REQ system. Also, feel free to share some of your best/worst REQ system moments…be it getting an awesome streak with a REQ or maybe you just got a good REQ and bit the dirt before you could use it.
I think most people don’t really mind the WZ aspect of the REQ system. I think what mainly bothers people is that literally everything is tied to it. This means that if you only play Arena (like a lot of people do), then your chances of unlocking anything you want are pretty low. Having to wade through the tonnes of useless cosmetics, emblems, and REQ weapons (that you may or may not even use) makes the whole system a chore. I’m not saying do away with it, since I think it works really well with WZ, but it needs a lot a refining, if it’s to return in any capacity in future games.
I kind of agree with some points and disagree with others.
I personally have no issue at all with the REQ system, but I think most complaints (besides the microtransaction complaints) center around the snowballing effect REQ levels can have and how the REQ system has aged. I was in a game the other day where we stomped so hard that we had Phaetons out and I was being shot at with a pistol. Seriously, They were REQ level 2 and we had already hit level 8 and 9. There is absolutely no way they could have fought back from that. It seems maybe that the system needs to balance a little more for weaker teams to have a chance in hell at combating more powerful weapons.
The other issue is just the way the REQ system aged since the games release. I mean people that have only had the game for a few months versus people like myself that literally have over 100 nornfangs because I’ve been grinding since day one. When the game first came out everyone was kind of even, but now that it’s been out for well over a year it is not welcoming at all for new players.
I don’t know of how this could be dealt with, but I certainly recognize the issue.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I never paid for a REQ pack, and I’ve unlocked everything through grinding because I had the time to do so. It doesn’t bother me at all that some people pay for it. People complain alot about not getting the cosmetics they want, but again I don’t really care for cosmetics so it never really affected me too much.
The main point I can get behind is that having good REQs doesn’t guarantee you’ll do well with them. This is the case 90% of the time I call in a high level REQ (Like a Banshee). I might get one or two kills with it. On the other hand, I can call in a regular Ghost and go on a killing frenzy with it.
I hear what you’re saying. It depends what people mean when they say “it’s ruining the game”.
Personally I feel it ruins the game in a different way. It gives no advantage to anyone, because who the hell is playing Warzone anyway (am I right?).
I hate how much crap they give you for Warzone, when you barely get an armor piece, visor, or weapon skin.
I feel like they should return to the system they had where you use your credits/points to buy armor pieces and what not.
Instead of getting useless things that you or I end up selling anyway.
I just think they should have an alternative way of obtaining armor/visors/weapon skins especially if you have no interest in Warzone.

I actually play Warzone/Firefight more than anything…I mean aside from SWAT. Those are like the three main game modes I play. And you don’t have to play Warzone for obtaining the other REQs/Armors. You can earn REQ points from doing other things in Arena and what not…it would just take a little longer. But it is still entirely doable to get the REQs.
People, including myself, hate the REQ system for a number of reasons.
It made Halo 5 into the first RNG based reward system. People HATE this, look at what it’s doing to CoD, but well, that game has its own other problems. But even a game like Overwatch gets harped on time to time about the implementation of an RNG based loot box system, and in that game it’s only skins! And then you get a game like Titanfall 2, that gets praised for not having any system of the sort.
In past Halo titles, there was no trace of a system like this, everything like the armor and the weapons in Halo 4, were all unlocked via leveling up, unlocking achievements,
or through a credit system. This gave the player a sense of real achievement and made players push to unlock these items. I still have memories of my reach days when I would see someone with the thunderstorm armor effect and though to myself, “damn, this guy must have grinded his -Yoink- of for this.” Now with the RNG system in Halo 5, it’s like, “wow, that guy must’ve gotten lucky.” There’s no real pride in having cool armor anymore. Even the heloscroll armor was cool at launch because you had to unlock it through completing all legendary in MCC, now anyone can get it through the REQ system. It dampens the magic.
I could keep going on about how many things I don’t like the REQ system, but I’m sure that the comments later on will fill the rest of the cup.
You probably already saw my response in the other thread about the issue, but for the most part I don’t see halo 5 built around the reqs. The custimzation is, but I’ve never cared about armor to be bothered by it, I wouldn’t approve of its RNG base to it though if I did care however. It’s also restricted to everything warzone related. Arena, customs, forge, campaign are all untouched by it.
as for issues with their effect in warzone itself, one could make the argument that it won’t make a player better, but you can’t deny that a good player will have his way more when he pulls out stronger variants vs weaker opponents. Like archer said above, they’re an issue when a team gets so far ahead in reqs that you can’t really compete when on the opposite side. brs and smgs won’t beat a group of tanks/banshees/marines, ect ect mixed with mid-high tier req weapons. Once a team gets that lead (as in maybe 200+) on you you’re pretty much done for the most part unless you can get a good push.
my idea is to limit the reqs in h6 to just weapons/vehicles. Make armor achievement based again or allow players to outright buy them.
When it comes to the weapons/vehicles: have it where you’re given a random set of reqs to use each game rather than you stockpiling your own armory. It won’t happen due to 343 not making bank off of it however. A work around on that however could be letting the player keep their stock piles, but they have to pick what reqs to carry over into their next game to try and alleviate some of the issues. The goal is to limit a group from continuously slamming specific reqs that are very effective vs the opposing team. Could also limit the quantity of said item to only 2-3 at a time as well
I feel like the complaints about the req system is just a excuse for bad team work or lack of skill. I know that’s harsh to say but in my opinion those warzone games that get campy where the enemy farms you, a lack of teamwork or skill caused that. The same can be said in all of halo’s larger game modes.
And even if the game was made around the req system, its still a overall decent design.

This post is exactly what is going on with REQ system. It’s too RNG based indeed. I too was a fan of the Halo Reach credit system, like you said, it made you feel like you achieved something for playing and saving up.

I wish for another system like this in one of my currently favorite games, Overwatch. Although it may be fun to freak out over getting a legendary skin for my main (I got the new chinese new year skin for mei last night and lost my -Yoink-), but I would rather have a more credit based system.

Yea idk if Blizzard will ever get rid of their RNG reward system. They are famous for it. I just hope in the next game, they don’t take Halo in the direction every game is going in (rewards wise). If it worked well in the other games, why change it?
I can understand why some don’t like the req system. It’s ok to complain about it. I just wish when they complain about it it’s actual legit complaints and with a suggestion to change it.

It’s not the fact that there is no teamwork, it’s that it’s a need in a social playlist. And 9 times out of 10. an actual team is the one farming a bunch or randoms, which is more of a matchmaking problem then a REQ problem.
I stated what was wrong with the REQ system above, and it has nothing to do with warzone at all, it’s more about what is worth an armor sorta thing if you wanna give it a read.

I think people are blasting enough over the REQ system enough to influence 343i enough to not do it again in Halo 6. Hopefully.

I think 343i is going to do it half and half, like bring back the old customization unlock system, but keep it in for warzone. Because, as I stated, it is sometimes fun to freak out over getting a legendary item out of sheer luck.

I like that idea. Mostly have all the REQ stuff for Warzone.

Although it may be fun to freak out over getting a legendary skin for my main (I got the new chinese new year skin for mei last night and lost my -Yoink-), but I would rather have a more credit based system.

> I like that idea. Mostly have all the REQ stuff for Warzone.
Or have super special REQs to where you have to unlock it through achievements, but keep the rest of the filler in the system. Ew, filler, I hate that word.
Another reason I think a lot of people hate the REQ system, it allowed 343i to make a lot of filler armor. And I mean a LOT of filler, there’s just so much. Did you know the locus armor is just a darker reskin of the aviator armor? God that grinds my gears.
