It did have damage dropoff, but there was a period where it outranged the shotgun by a little bit. I forget if 343 ever fixed it for H4 or MCC.
The Boltshot’s primary fire also had better range than the Mangler because of the Mangler slow projectiles and bullet drop. And it was a fast firing, spam-able gun. Mangler is less forgiving if you miss. Boltshot needed to land more hits as well.
The main balancing positive that the Boltshot has over the Mangler IMO is that it’s 1HK required a preemptive charge up and it used 5 bullets (half the magazine). While the Mangler is more reactive with its Tap n’ Slap. Which one of these is harder to pull off is debatable.
I know the range gap you’re talking about and if I recall correctly it was a very small window just past point blank. The shotgun would almost kill and the Boltshot would still kill, but if you took literally 1 step back then the shotgun did basically the same damage leaving you open for a melee, but the Boltshot would only drop your shields to to 1/3. It was a nominal issue.
And yes they completely mutilated the Boltshot in Halo 5. The pulse carbine is basically a combination of the H5 Boltshot and storm rifle.
But yeah the Boltshot would require the charge and consume ammo and the big issue was that you could spawn with it. Which is why anytime I played custom games in Halo 4 we played on a “Classic” version I made. I would also build all my forge maps around the more classic game mode. And by classic I meant that it turned off custom loadouts and just gave you no equipment and started you with AR and pistol.
This is a big reason why I think the current version of The Mangler is fine because it is a off the rack weapon.
I’d be fine with the 1shot+melee combo if the mangler was a more rare gun on a longer respawn timer, but ya it did need a nerf to that combo. As for the sword…it would have a proper counter if they just gave us the pump shotgun back.
Sounds like it efarrell54. I would guess they’re also not a fan of the Hammer, original Shotgun, Hydra, Sniper, Bulldog, Heatwave, Plasma Pistol, H4 Boltshot, Scattershot or the Mauler.
Hate the energy sword, hammer, and the classic shotgun whenever they’re not in my hands. However, those weapons are harder to get and rare because they are POWER weapons, the mangler is a regularly dropped weapon that can have multiple spawned in at once and refresh every 30 seconds.
The two of you completely don’t understand why any player with skill hates the mangler, because its an easy to use gun that anyone with a K/D below .90 can use to reliably kill better players with almost no way to react against.
I listed plenty of weapons from past Halo games that had a similar range and design/function. No one has ever complained about the Plasma Pistol being able to overcharge and then melee for a kill. No one ever complained that the Mauler could be fired at point blank range and then melee for a kill. No one has ever complained that you can shoot a Sniper Rifle at point blank range and get a melee kill.
With this change The Mangler becomes worthless in close quarters. It is going to be relegated to a close to mid-range headshot weapon. It is not meant to be solely a hand cannon to be used at range at all times. It’s supposed to be a multipurpose close range weapon. Reducing melee damage in order to affect The Mangler so it’s no longer a one shot one melee kill is not the solution. The most frequent complaints are that it spawns too often and that too many people can have it. Plenty of other people have suggested to just change the type of rack that it spawns in on. It should be treated like the mid-tier weapon it is and not nerfed so it no longer serves a purpose.
Making The Mangler a two-shot melee kill means that the BR which is a medium long range burst fire rifle will now be more effective at point blank range than a hand cannon that is supposed to have increased melee damage. A BR can fire two shots and melee far quicker than The Mangler is capable of just firing two shots.
The youtuber LateNightGaming and other youtubers seem to have some ideas on how to redirect the use of the Mangler. 343, if you’re listening, Do. Not. Nerf. The. Mangler.! And do NOT implement the across the board 10% decrease in Melee damage. Be creative, change the spawn rates, or which maps the mangler would spawn on in the first place. Heck, make it so that all of the pro players START with the Mangler if you have to. But do NOT implement the across the board 10% decrease in Melee damage just to appease the pro players complaining about the Mangler. That just hurts the casual Halo players, and make it so that less people play the game.
In addition, if the Mangler is too Strong, make other weapons stronger. Ideas:
VK Commando: Lower Recoil, Increase Damage, slightly decrease Firerate (while still maintaining automatic firerate).
MA40 Assault Riffle: Increase Accuracy, slightly increase damage (maybe decrease by 1 bullet to kill).
Bulldog: Increase Bullet Damage, slightly decrease Firerate (would be nice to have a beefier sound effect similar to classic Halo Trilogy sound effect).
Pulse Carbine: Increase Projectile speed, Improve tracking ability
Plasma Pistol: Decrease Charge Time. Also, PLEASE give it its former EMP effect on vehicles.
There may some disagreements as to how other weapons (outside of power weapons like energy swords and rocket launchers) should be buffed to counteract the Mangler (pre-nerf). But I feel like the general principle is logical.
No it doesn’t at all, the Commando, Pulse Carbine, Plasma Pistol, Disruptor, Sidekick (remove bloom), Bulldog and for the LOVE OF JESUS the Ravager all need buffs!
100% false Pro Players have nothing to do with the Broader Audience, they want to attract people outside of Halo, that’s the Broader Audience they want to attract
So, not sure if anyone else has seen this, but just in case, one of the community managers (Unyshek I believe) put out a tweet saying 343 that they were going to patch out the Scorpion Gun glitch from the campaign. Do you all remember that glitch in Outpost Tremonius (the third mission in the campaign) where you could go on the Frigate and do a few steps to get that gun? Well, that made legendary and LASO runs much easier for a lot of people and that’s the thing that 343 is getting rid of.
343, I don’t get it. I can’t imagine that enough people would have asked for this and notified you all of this glitch with the intention of getting rid of it. So, why? I can’t comprehend why you would do this. Please, do NOT do this. Halo fans are perfectly capable of making the choice whether to use this glitch or not. And frankly, you all have better things to do, like working on Forge.
While I appreciate the info this isn’t the thread for that, but I agree that there’s no reason to patch it out. Will they also patch out placing fusion coils where a boss spawns to launch them across the room and skip the fight?
