Do NOT bring back the Halo 2 Anniversary Elites

I would like to see a mix of the Reach and HW2 elites, but more Reach. The HW2/H2A elites seem to skinny I guess? They look awfully strange when hunched in normal armor, but the Arbiter looks alright. I do agree Halo 3 made them very cartoonish looking, but I personally think Reach had the best design.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind them as heavy weaponry Sangheili either as long as they aren’t the main ones.

Bring back the halo CE / Halo 2 elites, I feel like anniversary did a poor job of capturing that original style as I think it was what they were going for.

I like the halo wars 2 design because it plays on the elites characteristics, very tall and agile looking with shining armour, not bulky and heavy, the should be big but still elegant.

Here’s some old art that gets at the style I’d personally like Bungie.net
Ignore minor details like 3 toes and spindly armour pieces as its old halo 1 concept art, more focused on body type and scale as well as streamlining.

I agree with your first point. I don’t know about bringing back the originals exactly. I like innovation, but I truly do not believe that 343i/Saber captured what Bungie was going for with the Halo Trilogy Elites in their Anniversary design. I definitely think the Elites from Halos 1, 2 and 3 need to be stripped down and analysed more closely before 343i complete their Elites in Infinite.
I still think the Halo Wars 2 faces are off, but their armour design (particularly their helmets) are a slight improvement over the H2A ones. They do look elegant, tall and agile and not overly bulky like the Halo 4/5 Elites, but I think there’s still room for improvement.
I actually have a coloured version of that artwork saved to my computer. The version I have only has two toes though. I guess someone edited the middle one out at some point. I’ve always loved anything classic CE.

I say bring back every Elite design we have seen in Every Halo for Multiplayer including the H2 Anniversary Elites. I think it’s time for the Brutes to be Introduced to Multiplayer as well and all of there armors to.

Well it would give plenty of options and leave everyone happy. As for the Brutes I have always wanted to play as one and because of their anatomy, it would make more sense to put them in than Hunters or Grunts (as much as I would love that).

… playable Flood (maybe through this new forge if it allows you to create your own mini missions with forgeable ai).

I think it’d be amazing to play as the Brutes, Grunts or Hunters… But I think it’d make more sense to save all three of them (as playable units) for a spin-off title of some kind. Balancing could become an issue in a main Halo title like Infinite. Perhaps they could be saved for something more similar to Brute Force or even Battlefront.

I’m not sure about bringing back all the Elite designs as seperate models, but perhaps what they could do is allow you to edit your Elite’s physiology via a character customisation screen to make it more like one or another. I know I’d be going for classic for sure.

I would love a spin-off game where you play as an Elite in the Covenant during the early days of the war or maybe during the Fall if Reach and Battle of Installation 04?

In Halo 1-Reach, the Elites had a smooth leathery skin, you can see this very clearly when the Arbiter gets his armor removed in Halo 2. It was Halo 4 that introduced the reptillian style Elites with scales and the design returned in Halo 5, but in Halo Wars 2 the Elites seem to have their leathery skin back.

>
> When did Bungie define them as saurian? In the books of Bungie’s era they were described as looking like sharks. In the early books of 343i’s era they were merely described as leathery. The first material I’ve personally read in which they were described as saurian is Silent Storm (although Hunters in the Dark may have used the word too if I remember correctly). Only material after H2A describes them as saurian from what I can see, unless I’ve missed something in the last eighteen years.

I feel you’re attributing the design of the elite armour too much to their race. When elites are described as looking like sharks, they’re directly speaking of the finned helmets and anyone with eyes can tell a nude sangheili looks nothing like a shark. Leathery skin is a reptilian trait, more so than a fish/cephalopod trait.

Also you act like elites being reptilian is some new idea started by 343 with Halo 4 and H2A, but Bungie referred to elites in Reach as sinewy and tall saurians prior to Reach’s release. http://halo.bungie.net/projects/reach/article.aspx?ucc=enemies&cid=24611This link was sent before but was not acknowledged.

Elites have been referred to as ā€œgatorsā€ as far back as 2009 with Halo Evolutions: Headhunters. You can argue it’s a new direction Bungie took near the end of their tenure with Halo, but nothing in the books contradicts this (beyond slurs based on sea creatures, which as we established are mostly based on their armour and not the species itself).

As for the direction of the eyes, canonically their eyes have always been forward facing (albeit still on the side of the head in early depictions, but forward facing nonetheless) and while you could argue there’s merit to their eyes facing either direction, their role as infantry means forward facing eyes are the most practical. Try using a gun when its most efficient position and your target are both in the blind spot between your eyes.

Personally; I dont like the 343 Elites“design, but I liked a lot the H2A models. They look kinda strange and funny for me, with that expression and skull shape. They“re like a living meme

Honestly, I prefer the H2A Elites to the new Halo 4/5 Elites, but that’s just my opinion

Please DO bring back Halo 2 Anniversary designs. They look the most faithful to Bungie’s early designs than even Halo 3. I don’t care if they have savage skin, or forward facing eyes. I care about armour, shape and posture. If they look like classic Elites and behave like classic Elites, then i’m all for it.

I agree as the eyes having a different position and the skin being rougher in certain areas is minor in comparison to what happened with the H4/5 Sangheili.

But why bring them back if 343i can actually improve them? Why stick with the same stale design from 2014, which you yourself stated ā€œhave savage skin and forward facing eyesā€, when they can give us something better? The Chief’s armour in discover hope is a great example of how 343i can improve old designs while remaining incredibly faithful to the originals. Wouldn’t you want to see the Elites receive the same treatment?

Honestly I hope they move on from elites. Or do something else with them. Give them a new armor or something. Sick of elites. Praying brutes are back. Halo 3 brutes were more fun to fight.

I would create a new type for each species. Like a grunt that shoots toxic blinding gas at you. A jackal that charge you or call a bunch of others or something. A suicidal elite that can emp the entire area if you don’t kill him quickly.

I see what you are saying, but 343i obviously still has a lot to do based on what was shown at E3 2019 so that may not be at the top of their list.

Heresy, remove this filth!

The design is far from stale and is far superior to Halo 3’s, 4’s and 5’s designs. Those issues are that insignificant. Thats why i’m not bothered either way. Also, ā€˜improvement’ is subjective, for example some don’t think that Chief’s new armour is an improvement at all. I think its better than the Halo 4/5 armour, and actually looks like Halo again, so i’ll take it. Same thing with the Elites. Only thing that maybe could be changed is the leathery skin, but once again, if its not, i’m not complaining. As long as the jaw is positioned properly, the feet aren’t clown feet, they’re slick and agile like they used to be, their armour is classic-style, thats good enough for me.

Very important: When we are talking about halo wars 2 elites, are we talking about the cut scenes, or about the in game models? I prefer the in game models drastically over the cut scenes.

Also note, the art style on the cards that you use in blitz also differs from both of those.

I’m fine with H2A elites. They looked ugly in h4/5
