Some people will oppose what I’m going to say but sprinting really ruined Halo! let me explain, I played Halo since the beginning, I played all the campaigns with and without the Master Chief. What makes Halo a good game is it’s unique gameplay and mechanics. Halo has never been the game to have sprinting because you just don’t need it. I gives a challenge to the player to kill his/her enemy and makes them work for it. If you don’t kill the enemy, you are doing something wrong with your kills. I understand that 343 wants to bring in a new audience to the game but what about your hardcore Halo fans, the ones who worked and went through hard “training” to be good or even pro at the game. I just makes all of that go to waste when you can add sprinting. When I said that Halo is unique, IT IS! I will bet you will have a hard time trying to name 2 other FPS games that do not have sprinting. Back then, no one complained that Halo had no sprinting, because the people who played it were fine with it. Now we have people who expect sprinting to be a necessity in an FPS, but Halo isn’t that, it’s a hardcore game that take people skill to rank up and kill their prey. But that is what I think of the subject.
A thousand thread about sprint are necessary?

I disagree, as someone who plays the games for the campaign, I have no problem with sprint at all. That being said, I’m not opposed to removing it. I just don’t see how we have to have absolutely no sprint at all. Would accelerating your movement without lowering your weapon count as sprint? Because I don’t think that’s a bad idea.
Sprint was a long overdue feature, and for the record I can name many more than 2 fps games from the same timeframe as Halo CE without sprint. If they want the game to stay relevant and not exclusively for the hardcore Halo fans and nobody else, the game needs to evolve. Lucky for you the MCC will ensure the old Halo games will have servers up for years to come so you can enjoy their unique (and dated) systems for as long as your heart desires.
It’s also worth noting that Bungie introduced sprinting into Halo, not 343i.
Happy hunting!

I don’t get why you guys keep saying thoughtless things like “sprint makes the game more moden”, “sprint keeps the game relevant”, “sprint keeps the game up to date”, “sprint is necessary to compete with other popular FPS’s”. All of these statements have absolutely no grounds to stand on whatsoever. Why was H3 the highest selling Halo titles to date then? Why did Halo sales steadily drop after H3? Why is Counter Strike still an immensely popular game if it doesn’t have sprint? What does sprint add to the game that wouldn’t be there otherwise?
It’s not mobility, as maps are increased in size to scale for sprint, so the time it takes to travel is the same. It’s not faster playstyle, as sprinting allows people to escape death constantly, increasing kill times. It’s not uniqueness, as sprint has been around for years in CoD. Why exactly do you people want sprint? So far nobody’s been able to give me a solid answer. All I see is “I think sprint makes the game feel faster”, “I like sprint!”, “Sprint is a common mechanic in today’s FPS’s, so Halo should have it”, or “It was fun for me”. None of these are arguments… they’re just words thrown together. It’s like debating climate change and somebody chimes in with “I like it when rain hits my nose!”.
If you’re thinking that H3 was successful because it catered to a small group of hardcore fans, then what % of 12 million do you think were the hardcore ones? The 3 million who didn’t buy H4? It’s definitely larger than that, as most hardcore Halo gamers bought the game just to see what it would be like because it’s frickin Halo. I would venture to guess that the population of Halo players who enjoy the game’s early fundamental mechanics (fast-paced run and gun style arena shooter with a definite skill gap) would be at least half of those who bought H4, which would be 4.5 million. Combine that with the drop in sales from H3 to H4, and you’re at 7.5 million. That’s theoretically alot of people who constitute the “hardcore Halo fans”.
