Do maps feel cluttered to you while playing?

I decide to load up Halo Reach last night on the X1 since they did an update for it this past weekend. The game plays really well now if you haven’t tried it out. What was most noticeable was how eady it was to move around the maps. I wasn’t getting stuck on random items, no 5 inch step preventing me from moving forward, ample space for gun fights. The flow was a lot better for engagements. As a disclaimer this is just my opinion. H5 could remove some of the excess cluter on their maps and open them up more and keep them visually appealing.

There is a lot of stuff that feels like it gets in the way in Halo 5. I realize some of it is me being stupid and accidentally sprinting straight into walls, but there are just so many little edges and steps that I get caught on, and it’s annoying.

Exactly, why are those steps and ledges there? It messes with the flow of gameplay.

And then, combine it with the occasionally awful spawns in Halo 5, it makes moving around awkward sometimes.

The new Breakout maps have these nonsense embellishments on the floor that serve no purpose other than to get you stuck when you’re trying to sidestep out of combat.

Same, but Moines just strafing. When I try to strafe I using get stuck on some edge or something and it’s super annoying.

Some do especially that firefight on urban.

Exactly, it’s so annoying. It really is my only gripe with thia game. You have to super aware of your enviromental surroundings when you play.

Interesting to see that it happens to other people as well. You almost feel like you have to stand in open space because of the movement so you don’t get caught on something.

Yeah I don’t like how cluttered that map is. If they wanted to make it more fun and realistic, a scorpion should be able to flatten those cars by driving over them, or they should at least be destroyable.

I think it’s a combination of over designing maps and not testing them enough. One example is there’s a piece of map geometry sticking up in a popular pathway at the base of the spire on Apex 7 by the cave tunnel which you’ll get stuck on if you don’t sprint or jump over it. I don’t know how something that obvious would’ve been overlooked if it was tested properly.

Empire and Mercy, yes… by far the worst maps for clutter.

I know exactly what your’re talking about lol. It affects my open start everytime, I forget to jump over it.

I was this thinking this the other day. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve got caught on some random object whilst trying to cover from fire.

It annoys me because I dont know if to blame the game or my own stupidity. Most likely a mixture of both. Regardless it still bugs the hell out of me

Come to think of it, I think Halo 5 is the only game that gets me annoyed because of that.

How strange…

I don’t know why, I thought CE movement and maps would mess me up but they don’t. Halo 2 maps got more complex and they haven’t or 3’s. Halo Reach and 4 got their maps way more complex and still didn’t do anything and yet Halo 5 just does.

One word, mechanics. Whether you like them or not, they definitely change up the feeling while playing.

Probably is, or bad map design.
