Do I need to download waypoint to play halo 4 multiplayer online?

I have completed the mission in legendary, and now I am trying to play king of the hill, last man standing etc. It is a little confusing as to all the functions and the options. Is there some information I can access that can get me up to speed on Halo 4 multi-player and waypoint?
