We now have to buy it twice for the same console BS. Why?
You can have more than one game save going at the same time in the campaign. I am guessing the campaign isn’t available on 2 separate profiles or something? If so, an easy workaround is to just both use the same profile for campaign play, but have separate save files. I would recommend just resetting the console and trying again though because that problem doesn’t sound right.
The one who bought the game should set the xbox as home console. This should due the trick.
Switching your Home Xbox is limited to five times a year, so be mindful of that if you move between units often.
Settings > General > Personalization > My Home Xbox

Thanks Sam, thats what we did, but this is a step backwards. If i purchased an actual disc would it be the same? Id need to buy two copies of the game. Man waited 6 years and they want me to buy it twice.
Or be just logged in. My brother could play the digital version of rocket league with his account when my account was also logged in

I guess the profile that has been installed the game owns the rights.
Try to log in and then switch to your sons profile or set it as home console. Both ways “should” work.

If you are playing on the same console, you should only need to purchase one copy.
You will need to set up family sharing and then set the console as your home console. This will allow anyone in your “family” to play any game that you own on that console.
If you bought it digitally, you should be able to both play on separate consoles if they play it on your home console and you play it on another console.

You definitely don’t have to buy the game twice. My wife plays on her silver xbl account on our home console, while I play on my profile on a separate Xbox. As long as the second account is playing on what is considered the “home” Xbox for the account that purchased the game you should have no trouble
