Do I Like this Game?

A little while ago if you came up and asked me, “do you like halo 4?” I would say no, not at all. But you know, i’ve thought about it and i thought i’d share my thoughts with the denizens of the interwebs.

Do i like this game?

Yes, yes i do. Halo was my first game on xbox and i’ve enjoyed it ever since. Halo will always be a good game in my book.

Do i like the new features?

Well, somewhat no and somewhat yes. I like the fact i can move faster and i like the new armor abilities (i found them more balanced than the last batch). Do i like the CODy features like the ordinance drops and loadouts added? No, i dislike them with a great passion.

Do i like 343i?

No i don’t. I think they would make better authors than game designers seeing that story is always their main reason for doing anything worthwhile. I also never have thought them to be mediocre until i heard about that stunt with the wheelchair pic they pulled at GDC.

Do i like Certain Affinity?

Heck BLAMing no i don’t. I’ll give it to them, they know how to make pretty scenery but that’s the only +1 i give them. The only halo projects they’ve worked on besides the defiant map pack and halo 4 maps have been remakes of past halo maps and games. The fact they have a bigger background at making cod maps doesn’t help their case either (grant it they did make the maps for WaW, my favorite cod). Don’t believe me, here’s a linky: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certain_Affinity

Do i like Campaign?

Yeah, i liked the campaign. It was pretty action packed with a decent amount of dialogue. The few parts where you had to have read the books made me think WTF, though.

Do i like Multiplayer?

No, it’s unbalanced, random, and not true to the halo experience.

Do i like Spops?

I like the cenimatics

Do i like forge?

Forge is amazing. I actually feel at home with forge.

Do i like custom games?

What custom games?

I think of this game in two parts.

Campaign and Spartan Ops: Yes, I love it!

Multiplayer, Customs, and Forge: No.

(Though I have to give 343 credit for moving in the right direction with Forge Island)

I have to agree with most of what you’re saying, the Campaign was the best part of this game but that was it.

The multiplayer is unbalanced and random, custom games are almost nonexistent, Forge is getting better (though a few things are still missing), Theater is very lacking, and the Spartan in the wheelchair made me facepalm my facepalm.

thanks, i know forge is still a little lacking but so far it’s my favorite thing to do on H4

I don’t understand why you dislike Certain Affinity. Their maps all look good and play well. They are also experienced and have done a good job of porting and remaking games.

Pretty much agree with everything, though I’m not quite as forgiving. My issues with multiplayer are the same as yours, but the Campaign and Spartan Ops just had so much potential and squandered it.

Campaign was awesome!

Everything else was horrendous.

I was disappointed with every aspect of his game, save Forge and SpartanOps. (That is,I thought it would suck.)

I enjoyed Halo 4’s campaign, however I don’t think I’ll ever find a more epic experience then playing Halo 2 to be honest.

Spartan Op’s Was enjoyable to me. (The multiplayer version, not so much.) /i know people were disliking the “Go here! Push that button that changes appearance in every level there! Turn that thing on!” aspect. But the story line in and of itself was par. Though again, Firefight in ODST can never be improved IMO.

Multiplayer is making some improvement with balancing, and hopefully with this new weapon damage modification thing they got going on things will improve.

Crimson DLC was meh, Majestic was pretty good along with the Infinity Rumble (Fantastic BTW)

Castle DLC was pretty amazing I must say. All maps are fun IMO, and playing them with friends makes for an overall good time.

Forge.
One of my most dearly held aspects of the Halo Universe. Butchered. Forge Island is making Forge comeback to life, but the fact that 343i decided to first, “forget” to put in two very basic, yet sometimes very wanted or even essential tools (Zoom and Precision editing) made me cry a little. A single tear for the lost potential. Then you move to the items, whose new pallet “skin” was an improvement from the grey of Forgeworld, yet for some reason, a WHOLE lot bumpier then the original pieces. Items that were once perfectly usable as a floor are now “invalid pieces” in my mind.

The lack of care coming from 343i in that department brought me some frustration.
It isn’t as if adding at least the Zoom tool back into the game would break the game in any way shape or form. It isn’t some sort of “unbalancing” mishap, it isn’t making things less user friendly, it won’t bring waves of complaints from anyone and it isn’t changing the layout of controls on the controller. It’s simply adding a tool that was looked over on accident and placing it on a button not being used in the first place. Come on.

So do I like Halo 4, I’d say I do, but not as my top played game of the time.

Do I like 343i, not as much as I’d like, but I can’t find hatred for them.

When I first got Halo 4 - Took a while to come out.
When I first played Halo 4 campaign - Pretty.
When I first played Halo 4 multiplayer - That’s a bug, that’s a no head mod, that’s lag abuse, these mechanics are horrible, why does nobody talk, did that dmr just beat my rocket, time time to check the forums to see what they have to say.
When I first checked the file browser - Why are you not working?
When I first forged - I can’t work like this.
When I first played customs - My friends make this fun.
When I first used theatre - I want to film some campaign!
When I first played Spartan ops - I miss firefight, I want MOAR cinematics.
When I first customized my Spartan - This armor suckz, I thought forest was a color pattern not just a set of armor, I miss my flames, no voices for Spartan ops?

You can tell they most likely poured most of their resources into campaign and spartan ops. The campaign was definitely done well, and I enjoyed it as much as I do Halo 2 or 3’s

My largest issue with multiplayer is the random factor that is so deeply embedded into the majority of it. Most gametypes are not balanced enough for my tastes.

I’m sorry to say that trying to appeal to ‘campaign kids’ and bring them into matchmaking just wasn’t the best direction in my opinion. When you already have a massive multiplayer demographic, there really is no dire need to expand it. Especially in such a way that deters most of your already existing matchmaking population.

Halo 4 has the lowest population numbers of any Halo with matchmaking to date.
My guess as to why is because the core of Halo gameplay has been altered too much to try and appeal to a casual fanbase. And casual players are not the type of demographic that promotes longevity of any game with matchmaking. The very nature of a casual demographic is to bounce from game to game. They are not the type of players to rely on for multiplayer support.

Me with every halo

Personally, 4 multiplayer would be good, if there was no sprint. (sprint causes higher magnetism, as people are moving faster) 343 is actually trying to improve Halo 4. I hope that Halo 5 will be the best Halo ever, as 343 Knows exactly what to do.

> Pretty much agree with everything, though I’m not quite as forgiving. My issues with multiplayer are the same as yours, but the Campaign and Spartan Ops just had so much potential and squandered it.

Same Here, Cobra.

Don’t get me wrong, I complain a lot about Halo 4, because I enjoyed Bungie’s games so much, and Halo 4 was consequently a huge let down.

However it is decent, the gameplay isn’t brilliant but it’s good. I enjoy running around at high speed shooting people, and Halo 4 lets me do that. It’s fun, and I enjoy playing it.

The only thing I don’t like about Halo 4 is multiplayer. Everything else is pretty fun.

i guess it all depends on what you play. I’m mainly a BTB player. All their btb maps so far have been too small and not well-designed for vehicle combat.
