Do I just suck? (PC player)

Hello, I feel like I die SO FAST, but It takes me forever to kill others with the AR & pistol? I don’t understand what’s happening. I play H3 on PC and get tons of kills, same thing on other fps games… but this one im not understanding. It feels like my guns are broken but other people are wrecking me in seconds. lol

Iv’e got the opposite lol, Iv’e had better kill ratio on infinite so far than I have on H3

As a long time vet, my guess is you’re actually getting baited by long time players around corners, or you’re getting 2+v1’d. That’s just my first two go-to assumptions though

We’re just crushing newbs in preview. It’s like the vets have open reign some games

Idk man… ive been playing since H1… And this is happening usually for 1v1’s. Its like their AR rips me but I go through an entire clip… Im having to use the run and nade tactic myself to try and outplay since my shots aren’t hitting right apparently. lol

the kill times are way faster in infinite then H3 at least for the ar but its hard to say since people usually spawn with a BR in H3

Don’t sleep on the weapon drills. Running those and actively trying to get a new high score each time does a lot to improve your feel for a gun. I 100% saw an improvement in my sidekick game after spending an hour on it and feeling out what pace to fire it at for different ranges.

I think the matchmaking system just sucks. It’s matching us against players way outside of our skill levels.

I feel like the people with a good running rig are the ones stomping everyone else. My pc is smooth for about half a game when I first launch the game. It feels great and I can play aggressively but the longer I play the worse it gets. After 3 games it’s so choppy it’s unplayable and I’m getting stomped. So it’s probably not you, it’s probably an issue with how the game is running.

I think that the game’s performance on your PC can be a really determinant factor. I feel that there’s a huge difference between playing the game smoothly or not. However, most of the times I’ve felt like you, it’s because the enemies have way better aim than me, especially with the pistol. You get killed really fast when they’re landing all their shots in your head, even when you land way more shots in their body. Also, when they’re playing together and you get constantly 1v2 or even 1v3, it’s game over, automatically.

This is what ive been thinking too… I hate some of the crosshairs. With the AR I tend to tunnel vision and use the outside ring. I wish their was some way to take that off or customize the crosshair to make it a normal one.

some matches just go that way bro. Like tons of 1 shots getting away, missing your melee kill trade some how, and that sensation of being killed faster then you can kill them. It can be so many things. We’re also using the AR a lot…and…as good as it is in infinite, I’m finding some inconsistencies in it and it makes for some bad randomness at times that I really dislike. Times where I felt I probably should have died, they should have died, etc.

It’s just a different game though. You could possibly have easily played against people that were just really good in a team calling you out repeatedly. Theres no ranked mode, no rankings to see…there seems to be mmr showing but its a new game (actually a preview obviously) and peoples mmr are more than likely swinging all over the place.

But don’t beat yourself up over it. Like for some players its
this magical click. A moment of awe. THIS game feels amazing and it really plays to their strengths as a player where in another halo game perhaps they weren’t as good. Then there’s players who were exceptionally well but aren’t that good in this preview right now. Then of course there’s just good players that can pick up any game fairly easily. We’re only human though. We gotta allow ourselves to have some bad matches. Even the best players have them.

It’s not just you. The kill-times in this game are crazy fast. Especially for SK, AR and commando.
One second it’s going great for me, the next second I’m just randomly dead

Yeah, it would be really cool to have some customization options with the crosshairs. Also, I think bloom can make a huge difference. There have been multiple times where I have the crosshair centered on the enemy (especially with the Commando rifle) and I don’t land any shots.

Couldn’t agree with you more. The game it’s fantastic so far and like every game, it has its flaws, that can make it very frustrating or very fun, depending on the kind of match you’re having at the moment. Sometimes you can have a fantastic match when you could feel invincible against the enemies and the next match feeling like you can’t get a single kill. It’s part of the life of every Halo player

Not sure how many know but the AR seems to be able to do actual headshot damage once shields are gone, if you try it out in the weapon drills you should be able to see for yourself. Of course stuff like fps, ping, and general stability of the game affect it, tonight during the flight I actually ran into my first issues with the game getting frame-y after only a few games.

There’s also the melee bug/glitch/exploit/strat, which turns your elbow into a spartan eraser. TTK is definitely shorter in this game but it all depends on what you’re using, how far you are from what you’re shooting, and where you’re hitting them.

You’re not crazy. i was saying the same thing to my brother and cousin. the ar and pistol are just outclassed by almost everything rn. and that rpgs splash range is dumb. Also there’s a melee bug where if you’re fast enough it looks like you get melee once but actually its twice (reload + melee spam will make you just melee like 5 times a second) in terms of pure damage the ar and pistol are really even. but considering the inconsistencies is gets drowned out and basically just shooting them with nerf darts.
then you add in the actual need for teammates and it becomes a game where you just always have to stick together to win a fight. cause the ttk is so high for spawn weapons its basically impossible to 1v2 someone unless they’re just dumb. if they either buffed the spawn weapons or nerfed the wall weapons it would feel a lot better to play. cause having to use literally 10 bullets for a pistol because bloom rng if awful and i can die to a command in literally half a second is dumb.
i know its a beta but its like they didnt try at all. hopefully they fix it because im a halo fan/previous competitor and if they think this is an alright balance system even for a beta its not looking good.

I understand the struggle, and I’m not even a PC player, I remember playing on the first flight and doing fine, but the the second flight comes around and my god, I don’t think I have ever done as bad in in a fps game then I did back in Flight 2, though I feel like I’m getting the hang with just about everything but that dang pistol, it’s my kryptonite. One of the biggest things I realize I was doing wrong was splitting up from my team, trying to do things myself, this isn’t cod were you can gun down 3 guys if you have the right position, you can only do some much damage with your starters, so being with ally’s can help a lot, especially because every time I. encounter enemy’s on the Halo 2 style city map, and that space station map, their are always more then one enemy, which puts you at a immediate disadvantage.
