I was thinking to myself that’s its probably about that time. The time when we will start seeing Halo4 commercials on TV. My questions to you are as follows. Do you think they will just release the “Reveal Trailer” or something completely new?
And second do you think that the commercials have a direct impact on the way you view the games? I find it funny how my two favorite Halo TV commercials are also my two favorite Halo games “Halo 3” and “ODST” (but that might be just coincidence ). I would love to know what you all think and also what your favorite Halo commercials are.
p.s. If “Forward Unto Dawn” action scenes are anything like “We are ODST” it will be beyond amazing.
My guess would be when the game goes gold, trailers will be released. I have typically seen trailers released for the Halo franchise… eh, a month before it comes out so probably the end september beginning of October. Much of the game has been marketed already even if it hasn’t appeared on television.
We will probably see a crazy epic live-action commercial. So just stay tuned. And the commercial will probably give you goosebumps and nearly force you into a coma of awesomeness and anticipation…
You may even feel the urge to do what Cartman did for waiting for the release of the Wii 
-Edit- I totally forgot to comment on your actual question. The commercials may set a form of a tone, in Reach’s it seemed to set a tone of sacrifice… Which became very evident in the game with nearly everyone dying if not all have died.

I think Forward Unto Dawn is the advertisements for the most part. Retailers will obviously advertise that they sell Halo 4 aswell.
