I was watching a new ready up live blue team vid earlier and I noticed that when going threw a hallway with a suicide grunt the DMR had a shotgun mode. I don’t have a link for the video but I’m pretty sure this may just be on freds DMR.
You sure they weren’t thrusting backwards? When I saw it it looked like a DMR with serious recoil, but then I realized they were thrusting backwards.

New mechanic! It’s still unfamiliar territory.
Well, you CAN have a Shotgun “attachment” already for the DMR. When you have the DMR, just pick up a shotgun too. So when you have the DMR out, whenever you press Y, you’ll switch to your Shotgun “attachment”.
