The DMR is just fine and does not need a nerf.
I am so SICK of reading this crap. All this is, is BR nostalgia. Since the BR can be bested by something (long RANGE only), BR lovers can’t stand that it’s not the king in every aspect of the game.
If the BR and the DMR switched roles in this game, and all else equal, there would be absolutely ZERO complaining. ZERO. If there was complaining, this forum would have the general opinion that, “The BR has always been the best gun and you all should just get better at using it.”
If you refuse to use the DMR because you love the BR, then it is YOUR choice to deal with what accompanies that choice. So quit complaining, or use the best gun for the best results. The BR slows people down so much that if you can’t finish a kill then you suck. When I battle BR users, (using the light rifle for the past 2 weeks) I have a lot of trouble because it is so hard to take cover because you slow down SO MUCH. Use it to your advantage.
About the Carbine: I find it to be useless, would like a buff (perhaps 1 less shot to kill), but instead of whining about it, I simply won’t use it. Done.
I think the focus of people’s whining should be about the more pressing issues of the game. (i.e. ranked, killcam, fileshare, customs, JIP, weapons disappearing, running out of ammo, and the many many many other things) The game is a great game and has so much potential, but this BR-into-mouth-and-bunghole crap is getting so old.
The DMR definitely needs a nerf, IMO. It feels like when the BR dominated as the top gun in Halo 2 & 3. Although it is a very good weapon to use, the problem with it is that it’s used by many because of the fact it is overpowered, not because it’s reliable.
But that’s just my opinion, and I don’t mean to shove it down your throat in any way.
I honestly couldn’t agree with you any more. However, they were very extremely generous with the amount of aim assist that they put on a few of their weapons, so that might need a little fixing, but otherwise I use both the BR and the DMR and I find them both to be useful in the right situations.

The DMR breaks maps especially BTB maps because of the open areas and long sight lines it makes it very easy to lock down spawns like for example Ragnarok you can easily lock down the enemy teams spawn by holding mid with the DMR of course you could do this with the BR aswell but it’s far easier with the DMR.
But maybe that’s just me and the numerous times I’ve trapped people with little to no teamwork being used.
Its not about nostalgia. It as about the DMR dominating at most ranges, which leaves no incentives to use other guns than the DMR. That is kinda contradicting to what 343 wants - variety.
I find the light rifle better at very long range then the dmr so I say leave it as is. The BR does need a buff to make it superior then both at med range. And the Carbine, I dunno what they can do with that thing? Maybe increase rof or something?
The AR is very good at close range but the suppressor and storm rifles seem off to me, just not as effective.
I always use the plasma as its emp is very usefull but since its normal fire is so weak I say leave it be, same goes for the bolt. The magnum is also fine.
I use plasma grenades for sticky kills. man or machine but the frags are just as usefull (unpredictable path). I do think the pulse grenades need some help and also upgrades to two not one to carry.

Aim assist is crazy in this game, in online mp games I always look to disable it but I can’t in this game. We need a playlist with this off among other things (drops).
I think it’s fine, it’s better at long range while the BR is better at closer ranges. They both have their pros and cons, just need to use them in the correct situations.
The DMR is better than the BR at all ranges, not just long range…I’m not sure if it’s Halo fanboyism that’s causing you to try and ignore facts, or the fact that you yourself use the gun, but neither are excuses to ignore something that breaks game balance.

The only thing that the DMR has over the BR imo is that the DMR has a 14-shot mag, while the BR has a 12 shot mag, Other than that, I see no need for a nerf.

I appreciate the reasonableness shown by people who disagree, to whatever degree. That is what this forum needs.
But to say it isn’t about nostalgia is absolutely wrong. Come on. Perhaps saying it isn’t the only reason would be more fitting, but nostalgia is NO DOUBT a big player in this nonsense.

Long range only? I’m sorry but ain’t true. DMR kill time is just a bit faster than BR. Meaning a perfect five shot from DMR beats a perfect BR fives hot. However you are very likely to find the DMR guy scoped in at long ranges as you approach him and get first couple of shots in… So I will agree with you as far as the numbers are negligible and not as bad as complainers say they are. But it is still, not perfect.
So 1v1 BR has more aim assist and should win in close quarters. But run this several times. 2 DMRs and 2 BRs enter the room. Both teams are strafing about… Who wins? The side that doesn’t have so much Aim Assist, DMRs win almost every time at close range. This happens because when two targets strafe together and cross paths the BRs aim assist tries to track the target that moved in front. DMRs won’t suffer this and in a steady marksmen’s hands will stay on the Intended target and not try to switch without its masters command. DMRs win, not nostalgia… They simply win.
BR is a noob weapon for people who need 3 chances to get a final headshot or need the extra CQB aim assist/spread due to poor aiming ability.
Also anyone who loved CE or 2 loved single shot weapons. The H2 BR appeared to be a burt firing but its 3 bullets traveled as 1 shot. Really only H3 had a true burst fire BR. The H2 BR was more like a nerfed CE pistol same as the H4 DMR.
The DMR encourages camping. The BR encourages you to push forward.
Pushing forward is what made Halo fun.
Going up against people! Not sitting on a hill and shooting at people not even looking at you.
That’s what the Sniper is for, People use the DMR like a sniper!
