It is not about the BR. It is about weapons being worth using. The Battle Rifle right now is just a decorative item in a menu. It serves no real purpose, and there is nothing to counter the DMR at medium range.
Why are you guys crying so much? The DMR and BR take the same amount of hits to the head and have the same speed. Just get better at halo. To those who refuse to use the DMR as it’s “overpowered”, you should leave your fanboyism in the campaign. Don’t bring it to MM. The amount of people who love the BR is sickening. Yes its a good gun but nostalgia shouldn’t determine what you use and what you hate on.

I understand your point, but for me I don’t use it because I have no aim. If I use the AR at least I have a chance of killing someone every now and then. I didn’t use the BR either.

What we really need is the Halo CE pistol back. Because the older Halo games were perfect. Right?
I pay close attention to detail, and I notice more people using the BR rather than the DMR. Maybe this is just a coincidence. I use the DMR myself because I’m more of a long-range mid-range type player and to be honest I haven’t really gave the BR a good chance. One reason being is that it sounds like complete -Yoink-. I used the piss out of the BR in Halo 3 and liked the way it shot and sounded. Grab a DMR and step your game up. If you keep getting owned, well, keep getting owned, or find a different game.
I mostly run into DMR users. I think people who run into other guns more often are either casuals with a very low invisible rank or are just outright lying to protect the OPness of their favorite weapon.
The DMR is the most used weapon in skilled matches. Anybody that is equivalent to a 30 or above in skill (in Halo 3’s ranking terms) will find that the DMR is the dominant weapon in all cases.
I get killed by plenty of DMR’s too. Storm Rifle, Thrusters, Mobility, Sensor…run, run, run, get em on the radar before they get you, move in fast, thruster dodge close the gap, storm rifle whittling away shields, melee. DMR can’t help you in close. I’ve taken out many people playing medium and long range games using close quarters methods.
DMR, Assault Rifles, BR…who cares they all have their own places in the game. Playing a cloaked sniper with the DMR in BTB is pretty fun for a lot of people. It’s not my cup of tea, I like the up close firefights with assault weapons. The jumping and dodging. I’ve lost some great fights to people with exceptional shield skills…do they need to remove it? No, I need to adapt and give them the respect they deserve. Just like people with really great DMR skills.
You have to know the maps and the sightlines that DMR’s will excel at. It’s just going to be lots of playing to find the best ways to reduce your DMR deaths. Don’t make yourself and easy target.
I love me some BR, almost have the master commendation on it. But I too agree that the DMR is a bit over powered. either that, or the BR is a bit under powered. I like them both though, depending on the situation.
The DMR is the most used primary weapon argue it as must as you like that’s just the way it is.
The DMR is beyond noob-friendly, that’s probably why there are so many complaints about it all over these forums.
I mean when I first used it in Reach I knew the game wasn’t going to end well and the H4 version is even worse.
look at it this way
DMR:
-14 shot magazine, takes 5 shots to kill that means you can kill two targets and be able to miss 4 times.
-no recoil (say what?)
-Rate of Fire is fast
-no bloom(trigger spammers aren’t punished)
-ridiculous aim assist
-causes long stale boring uneventful long range engagements.
BR:
-36/3 = 12 shots = 2 shots are able to miss
-has recoil
-must lead targets
-All 3 bullets from a burst must hit to maximize dmg.
I do believe this horrid weapon is ruining our beloved franchise, it is just simply too good. No I’m not saying its OP so don’t flame me, what I’m actually saying is it has no draw backs. It is insanely accurate much like a Sniper Rifle bullet with a fantastic scope which makes it a nightmare on Open maps like Complex, Ragnarok etc. A weapon this good simply shouldn’t be available from spawn, its essentially a mini Sniper Rifle. In Halo Reach it was annoying but the bloom meant cross mapping wasn’t as bad plus the scope was not as good which meant cross mapping from large distances wasn’t as easy or as fast.
I loved Valhalla in Halo 3 but in Halo 4 it seems that if you don’t use the DMR or Lightrifle then you are going to be demolished. Valhalla was a great map but with such powerful weapons in play there really is no map movement, now before the idiots start flaming me and say “don’t run out in the open then” then how are you supposed to move around the map? Hog the limited amount of cover there is like the caves and pelican the entire map? Sit back at base and camp? Wait for vehicles to respawn?
I’m sorry but the Halo formula was MILES better without this unbalanced excuse of a weapon, the BR was PERFECT. It couldn’t cross made no where near as good, you had to have good aim to land the bursts at higher distances and it doesn’t break map movement. When the BR was in place you could quickly rush to other parts of the map without being cross mapped in mere split seconds, you actually had time to react.

> DMR is a great weapon but it is not over powered in any way… I can easily kill players using the DMR on close to medium ranges so stop your crying…
Simplified version of what you said: (since dmr rapes long range) the dmr isn’t overpowered, it’s just overpowered. I’d like to see every dmr user switch to carbine or LR for a day, watch the tears flow.

Dmr kill time with all headshots at every range:1.7s BR time with all headshots from every range(assuming able to hit all shots from burst): 1.8 seconds, which is a big difference. LR unzoomed same as above: 2.02s HUGE dif.f zoomed:1.67 if you miss the headshot or miss just one shot(not uncommon): 2.19s if you miss one shot with dmr 1.99s carbine if you hit all headshots(by some miracle):1.75 s but realistically(missing 1 shot):1.93s missing 2(equivalent to missing one dmr shot): 2.11 missing one entire burst with BR(pretty damn hard to do but still):2.09
All calculations were conducted from both point blank and from about 25m, repeated 14 times, and averaged for human error margin.
test em out yourself if you want, they’re all right. Learn your facts noob.

Storm Rifle?..
I think I got killed by a storm rifle once. I killed 3 of this kid’s teammates and I was 1 shot…it took the kid like a clip to kill me.
No offense, but I think I’ve killed people with SR’s so fast that I never saw them shooting me with it…

All those points are wrong.
-has recoil
Eh… kinda but it’s very similar to the DMR and it is very manageable.
-must lead targets
No. It is hitscan.
-All 3 bullets from a burst must hit to maximize dmg.
Not true. You can miss something like two bullets and still kill them pulling the trigger 5 times.
It takes very simply logic to understand why putting an extreme long range rifle in the hands of players is never a good idea in any shooter. 343 may as well had made every map an open field with a few rocks around the spawns at opposite sides of the map.
DMR kill times are right where they need to be. Anything lower and we have a repeat of reach where games dragged on much longer than the needed to. The bloom was hated by the competitive community and casuals alike. They need to bring the other weapons kill times up to par with the DMR instead to compensate without reducing game speed. As for vehicles, make them less prone to small arms fire, but not power weapons.
