DLC plz

So I was sitting around talking to a friend about Halo and the direction it goes every new game that’s released. They make a story, they have DLC for maps and such, but nothing to add to the story. The most annoying thing that game developers do is they give you only a snippet of the full game, and then they release DLC for the parts of the game you should have had from day 1, and I am by no means suggesting that, but I can’t help but think that what is found in Halo books would be nice to see in action via DLC… Think with me if you will.

Play through the campaign per usual, express that here in a month there will be downloadable content and such, and then when that month arrives, create something called <insert whatever name you want, but I will give you an example name> “Master Chief Memories”. And in the DLC you get to play as Master Chief in his younger years from the very first missions he ever faced. Add some flashbacks to what it was like in training, earning the trust of Blue team, ect.

I know a lot of people hate DLC, but I feel like the book side of the franchise is underappreciated and it would help fill the gaps. It isn’t something that takes away from the original game, it gives the feel of nostalgia, and it allows people to immerse themselves in the story that they would rather play through, than read through.

Edit: I know they made spartan ops, but it DID take away from the story at that moment IMO.

Campaign DLC would be great, but not too much cause that would leave them no content for another game.

It would be cool to extra story in a DLC but that might mean 343I would go back to charging for DLC and I don’t think anyone wants that. Plus I don’t mind waiting 3 years to get a new game with a story because in between those years we get new Halo books and comics which include more lore. I still think it would be cool but I don’t believe it’s needed or anything.

extra maps and armor? sure, I’d go for that

I wouldnt mind a side DLC for campaign on maybe one of the other key characters. Like if arby comes back, have a little side campaign or few missions on what the heck he has been doing up to the events of Halo Infinite

I don’t want to hear anything about DLC, especially since the game is still being made. DLC should be post the game going golden and there is the iffy area of time when the game just needs polish and the artists/models have nothing to do so they can work on new addition content. I’m ok with that, but DLC should be an after thought or towards the end of development cycle. Though I’m against day one DLC because that doesn’t sit well. Some level, map, armor, or game mode gets cut due to no time in the dev cycle but gets finished in an expansion to the game, that’s ok. I think the talk of DLC is way too early and shouldn’t be really focused on.

I’m not against the idea of 343i making story or map pack DLC but it needs to be good. I just want them to focus more on making a good initial experience for the game and it that isn’t missing any content at release. I’m ignoring bugs because there is always bugs at release. And when DLC comes around, the DLC content should bring something interesting to the table. New maps that have different play styles to it, or additional story content that brings something new (even if it reuses a lot of assets but is cleverly made to give a new area).

A campaign expansion DLC would be cool and new to a fps Halo game and I wouldn’t mind that at all. But i’d want it to be connected to the events of Halo Infinite, not no passed missions. Maybe a DLC of 5+ missions as the Arbiter or Red Team to see what kind of impact the Created’s war has on the Ark. I’d assume Cortana would be aware of the situation over there by now with the Banished.

As long as it doesn’t take away from the main game and has the same amount of effort put into it I’m totally fine with DLC.

The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine is a good example of DLC done right. Doesn’t feel like an afterthought or a money grab. Could’ve been it’s own game to be honest.

I really wanted them to add story DLC for some Blue Team backstory since we didn’t get much in the main campaign of H5. They kinda just existed and you were like “okay”.

A while back I’d be all for dlc, all it ever did was split the community but I’d rather not have more loot box’s so having dlc instead might be better since I’m sick of opening them. My main concern about story dlc is I feel like it could lead to ‘cut content’ just so they can release it later.

Spartan Ops was ok but I found the missions were mainly just recycled content, well I think the dev’s struggled to make original content in such a short time so I think it might be best if they focus on 1 game at a time while focusing on getting the game as complete as possible since I don’t want a repeat of Halo 5 where the game lacked content for such a long time, even 3/4 of the game was online only so Infinite should avoid the online only parts too.

Im not really a fan of story DLCs, i just think that a full story should be in the main game and the main story in the franchise should be such that it can be fully observed and followed through playing only the stories of the main games.
Though surely character backgrounds and different perspectives could be shown in different form of media, though only in a way that its not required to follow the story but they would be rather there to fleshen things out.
But if there are products that follow a different perspective, i would rather prefer a proper game to present such than some DLC.
Maybe something like the Spartan Ops though.

I’m alright with this. I love the idea of campaign dlc as long as it doesnt interrupt the process of making the main game and as long as they dont pull a destiny and cut out half the original game and resell it as dlc.
I’d like it to be short campaigns around the same time as infinite or shortly after but played from characters other than chief so we get a few perspectives. Leave the main game to chief and let arbiter, Locke, or some random marine / odst get a short 4 or 5 mission dlc. Maybe even a 2 or 3 mission campaign like hw2 spearbreaker but it’d have to be cheap if it were that short. I’d make such a short campaign only a few bucks.

I can’t think of any of the books working in a game format. Some books might be able to produce maybe one mission with certain combat scenes, but that’s about it.
