With Halo 4 having many playlists being deserted wastelands, you gotta wonder what 343 is thinking by adding all of these odd, skill-less game types that no one cares about. I, like many others; were unfortunate enough to have actually bought the Limited Edition version. So of course we have the DLC maps, right? Well you’d think 343 would wrap their heads around that. The DLC maps, are maps we’d like to play on. So why is there no DLC playlist? I understand you can’t have a bunch of playlists because the player count would be so widely spread, but why not dump the playlists not many people play on to begin with? We need a DLC playlist. Every Halo since Halo 3 had one. So why be so stupid about it? I’m not trying to be a punk, but they really need to stop catering to one side of the community. I hardly ever get any map outside of Exile or Haven. The Majestic Map Pack was very good in my opinion. Many people paid $100, or more for the game. The least they can do is put in a playlist containing only the maps we paid that $100 for.
No one spent $100 on DLC for Halo 4. But yeah, I agree. You would need multiple playlists though, and that’s hard to arrange.
I’ve explained before in other threads about this very same thing why an all DLC playlist wouldn’t be possible. The maps for each map pack require different size teams: 4v4 on Majestic and Champions and at minimum of 6v6 (although it makes for a slow game) on Crimson and Castle.
This would mean that the team sizes for an all DLC playlist would have to be 6-8 players, something that can’t be done on 4v4 maps, especially Skyline, the smallest map in the game. Playing 8v8 on a map purposely made for 4v4 battles would make the game unplayable and unbalanced (think along the lines of having more than enough players to spawn trap the enemy team). Same goes for the big maps. Having teams sizes lower than 6 would end up with a slow game and the score limit not being reach before the end of the game.
Besides, DLC only playlist are notorious for having among the lowest populations of any playlist. It has been this case for years, even back in Halo 3 until Bungie made all but 4 playlists DLC required. Like you already mentioned, yet another playlist would divide the population further than it already is, making longer search times and even laggier games.
At this point, its best to search with a full team of DLC owners to improve the chances of being matched up with other full teams of DLC owners, this way the maps are more likely to show as voting options. I do this a lot and play the DLC maps semi regularly, maybe 6-7 games a day.
