So, DLC can become a big problem in a game like halo. If not enough people purchase the DLC, players become severely separated. It is inevitable. My suggestion is the “Infinity access program” (a bit cheesy I know). It would be priced around what a season pass would be (maybe a bit less to compensate for the eventual free to play)
Players can choose if they want to gain early access to DLC that would later become free to all players. Once the DLC is free it will be required to play. This would keep the maps fresh while keeping the community united.
There could be some included bonuses to joining the “infinity access program” such as DLC armor sets (like bullseye),skins, armor effects(if they return), emblems, and nameplates. One new emblem, skin, nameplate, armor effect, and armor set could release with each DLC.
During the early access players would be able to test new game modes before they are publicly released as well. There would be an ability to give feedback in game on said game modes.
Of course, players would be able to purchase early access “bundles” separate if they decide they want to, this would grant them the customization items exclusive to said DLC. However, some items may not be set to a specific DLC, rather the purchase of the whole “Infinity access program”
Thoughts? I really think this could work out. If not in halo 5, maybe future halo games.

Three months may be a bit much, just because it may split the community for too long.

But factor in the money -Yoink!- wants, the benefit needs to be large enough that people would want to get it initially rather than waiting.

True, I think maybe a month 1/2 to two months should be sufficient then.
Either make all dlc required on the majority of playlist, such as Halo 2 and 3, or have no dlc at all. I wont be wasting my money on any dlc again until they go back to this model. I also would definitely not spend money for basically early access.

Heh, must be good being to splurge on DLC when you want to eh?
How about this idea? Pay to get access to maps, armor sets, gun camos etc. People who don’t pay, can still play on the maps but they can’t rank up/get exp on those DLC maps and they don’t get access to armor sets, gun camos etc.
Community isn’t split up, everyone gets to play together and 343i and Microsoft (not -Yoink!-, what is this, 2005?), still make a profit.

The lack of ranking up may keep players away from the DLC, so that could be a problem. Aside from that, I could also see this working.

What if the people who pay get the map pack a week early, and are able to forge on it, play on it, and gets special armor, but those who don’t actually buy get to play on it in matchmaking, but can’t earn map related achievements, the special armor, or ability to play customs or forge on it?
