DLC and Games On Demand

I was wondering a couple of things. First, are we going to see a sale on the DLC across the games anytime soon? Specifically the Halo 3 Mythic II map pack (which is still 800 points after all these years) and both Halo Wars packs (which also are outrageously still 800 points a piece). Having a sale on the Noble and Defiant map packs for Reach would be great to some of my friends who still haven’t picked them up. Lastly Games on Demand, The prices for Games on Demand have always bugged me. I understand I have to pay a premium to install the whole game to my hard drive, but the prices for the Halo series are a little strange given I can pick up Halo 3 used for 5 bucks no joke. Also ODST is missing completely from GoD, why I am not 100% sure, but I can guess because it has something to do with the fact that the game shipped with Halo 3 complete multiplayer. Still though, I was interested in eventually (not any time soon) getting all the games through demand and having them all on my hard drive.

I’m hoping bs angel or someone else important can comment on this thread, I’d hate to see it go ignored.

They should be free after about a year. I remember on Halo 2 when they was rolling out the map packs for the first year you could buy them within the first twelve months if you really wanted them. or you could wait a year you could download them for free.

Well back then alot of DLC was free, remember getting free maps for CS

Just remember it’s not 343’s choice to make them free but microsoft, so odds are against you my friend.

Premium DLC like Halo’s will never be free. If it does become free, it’ll be for a promotion.

Honestly, when it comes to GoD I am torn. Convenience is always nice - don’t have to leave the house to go buy a video game. But like the point you’ve said, you could get the game for 5 bucks, albeit used.

I think it is silly that the full game downloads are the same price as their retail counterpart. Sony recently has taken a step in the right direction by releasing Vita games on PSN and retail at the same time to give consumers a choice. Retail is full price, but if you DL from PSN you save a few bucks ('bout 5, may not be a huge discount, but it does help drive DLing the game instead of going to retail).

It would be awesome if Microsoft started doing something similar to Sony. Simultaneous release gives a stupendous option for us. I hope someday it will happen; preferably with Halo 4.

I’m not saying it should be free, I’m saying it should be half price after 3 years

That’s doubtful of it going half price for the regular price. It is kinda like buying a dvd. The movie you are buying may be years old, but it is still 20 bucks. Just like the newer movie next to it. Age doesn’t determine price. Which is sound and sometimes I wish it did. Then I’d be able to get that Ferrari I’ve had my eye on since I was a kid.

> Age doesn’t determine price.

Yes it does. which is why all the dlc but the Mythic II pack for Halo 3 is half what it used to be when it came out. It’s why Halo 3 is 5 bucks at gamestop. It’s why Reach brand new is 40 bucks. The older a game gets, the cheaper it is, how do you not know that?

And as far as your Ferrari goes you are also wrong on that, you can get an older model Ferrari (granted it’s not a classic model like anything with 250 in it) cheaper than a brand new one.

I think it has something to do with the achievements. Read that if dlc offers achievements it will never be free. Just don’t quote me on that. Also even COD 2 dlc is still 800 points. Here

EDIT: Also look for an ODST multiplayer disc.

You read my post wrong, I’m looking for a sale meaning a discount on dlc from 3 years ago, not a freebie. And I already have all the Halo games ODST included but I was interested in getting them all on my hard drive but ODST is missing from games on demand. My assumption was that since ODST launched with Halo 3 multiplayer it would be hard for them to come down on a price point for half the game contents.

I would really like to hear something official on this subject, and not anymore people who think I want free dlc

Sorry wasn’t trying to say you where looking for a freebie. That was just the thought that was triggered when I read a few posts. When I was working on my COD 3 multiplayer JD 2020 the community manager for Treyarch had to encourage microsoft or the higher ups at Treyarch to drop the price on the COD 3 map packs.

According to my clock, It is now March 3rd, three years to the day when Halo Wars first came out

Can we at least see a sale on that DLC to celebrate that milestone?
