Displaying rank beside a players gamertag has its perks. It provokes players to dive into ranked playlists and try to surpass your friends. Always trying to achieve a higher rank. It gives a player bragging rights and is a good way to show off a bit. Most importantly it gives a sense of achievement! I think this alone would boost the Arenas population. Also, arena play lists need more variety! Am i the only one who wants to play snipers, doubles, objectives, etc competitively in arena?
The current arena system doesnt even need to change, i just want to see that rank by my name, whether it be the divisions or 1-50. It gives the sense that i earned something when its displayed by my name.
Imagine you unlocking new armor, but your not able to equip it and show it off in any game type, people can only see it by clicking on your name and scavanging through your service record.
Whats the point? Thats what the rank system feels like in reach right now. That alone is a big turn off.
Always agreed with this, just throw it (highest current division) up on your nameplate in all playlists.
> Imagine you unlocking new armor, but your not able to equip it and show it off in any game type, people can only see it by clicking on your name and scavanging through your service record.
Never really thought about it this way before but I like it, good thinking.

I) Halo’s “ban-Hammer” has been constantly updated since halo 2 to stop cheaters. The only thing which comes to mind when you say cheaters are modders/hackers, and these people have had no access to any online matchmaking play lists since halo 3. Cheating is not a problem with reach.
II) As for boosting, reach has a daily credit cap of 60k credits to try and reduce boosting. Yet boosting still exists, look up credit farming. The point is reach has boosters now and will always have them, as with every game. With this in mind, displaying a rank beside your gamertag will not shake the population of boosters.
III) Now about selling accounts. Reach introduced an arena system that only displays ranks for a certain time frame, which are called seasons. With every new season your rank is refreshed to zero. This means that even if someone is to buy an Onyx account, it will only be displayed untill the season is over. After wards if the player wanted to become onyx again, he would have to buy a separate account for every season.
Reach’s online experience is already built around preventing cheating, boosting or selling accounts. So displaying your rank, would have no impact on it.
I would like if you could have your little Arena symbol next to your name, with a cute little percentile number next to it showing intra-division ranking. And more Arena playlists, that would be nice too.

cool idea, i wonder if displaying rank can even be implemented with a title update.
THANK YOU. I hope Bungie is listening. To my mind rank is the most important thing. I rather play a crappy game with rank then a great game that doesn’t let me achieve anything. Who cares about Inheritor if all you have to do is play games to get credits?

I) You apparently have never been DDoSed. Modders and hackers are not a problem, but DDoSers are. The banhammer is terrible at banning DDoSers, and they are rampant in ranked playlists at high levels of play.
II) Why in God’s name would I be talking about cR boosting? I am talking about boosting your 1-50 rank. Again, you seem ignorant on the subject.
III) I agree that the resetting seasons is a good deterrent for selling accounts, but displaying your rank WILL have an impact on cheters and boosters. Why do you think people cheat in the first place in Halo 3? To get the next rank.
Rank should only show in Ranked playlists. Rank/skill lvl obsession ruined H3’s gameplay. Non one bragged- only talked down to people below lvl 45 (which in itself is limited).
Ranked should have a larger place in MM- literally. The Arena as a section (like competative and Community but) full of ranked playlists should return.

To answer your question no, i have never been DDoSed, not even when playing in Onyx level games have i had such problems. I’ve done a search on these forums and i still cant even figure out what it is.
II) How in Gods name am i supposed to know your NOT talking about credit boosting? Be specific next time rather than being a vague troll. Not to mention reach doesn’t even have a 1-50 system.
III) Im glad you share the same opinion. Though one way or another, cheating always finds it way into every game. Maybe displaying rank will have some impact on cheaters, maybe it wont. The general idea is it worked for halo 3, why shouldn’t it work for reach?
If your going to write a quick sentence with 4 words to represent your points (cheaters, boosters & selling accounts) then don’t expect me to read your mind and understand what your trying to convey. Be specific next time and maybe we can have a normal discussion/debate.

LOL rampant? I played almost 1500 ranked games. Know how many times I was “DDoS’d?” (which is a misnomer in any case)
ONCE
Maybe in Doubles it’s kind of common in comparison but even then, I know plenty of Doubles 50’s with thousands of games and only had it happen once every few hundred.

>Never played Throwback 50 high
>Never played Squad battle 50 high (hell even 40 high)
I’ve played over 7000 ranked games, and I have been DDoSed over 200 times.
II) Um…what the hell is your whole thread about? Displaying a skill based ranking system. Why would I be talking about boosting the experience based side of Halo’s ranking system? It is basic deductive reasoning that I would be talking about the 1-50 system (or arena which is the same thing). That’s how you are supposed to know I am not talking about credit boosting.
III) Yes, cheating will always happen, but I would imagine hiding your rank from the rest of the population would get rid of a LOT of the incentive to cheat.

The credit/experience based side of Halo is also considered rank! And people boost with it (credit farming). Thus my assumption that you were speaking of credit boosting was a valid one.

Those two playlists are far beyond everything else in terms of uniqueness. They are the exception, not the rule.
Using the exception as a primary case in a debate is just idiotic. You might as well say “we shouldn’t have any ranked playlists because MLG FFA had a low population.”
