In my lifetime of being a competitive FPS player I’ve only ever liked 2 multiplayer centric games. Halo and Counter-Strike. I still play Halo passionately to this day, but I’ve kinda given up on CS due to it’s refusal to ever change. While Halo ultimately won out over what FPS I continuously play, CS does have something Halo doesn’t.
The mechanic of one life to live. What I love about that mechanic is the feeling it evokes in combat. I hope nobody in my family ever reads this, but killing someone in CS is SO satisfying! The game really makes it feel like its you or your opponent considering if you fall, then thats it. It really makes you focus, and make smart decisions. Plus it makes the game a thousand times more competitive. Which is great considering what a game like Halo tries to accomplish.
So far the first map, Crossfire looks like it will serve this mode well. Plus it’s forgeable so I expect a lot of work from the forging community at large.
What I’d like everybody to discuss in the comments is: What do you think of Breakout? Will you play it? What do you want 343i to do with it post-launch? What kind of content do you want to support this game-mode? Should it be in the, Halo Championship Series? And do you think the community will take to Breakout?
I would definitely play this mode. It makes it to where you don’t have a bunch of n00bs mindlessly running out into battle. You have to take a step back and really plan/communicate to win.

Thats something I really like about this mode. It’s going to promote people to think about their actions. I’ve always thought Halo is a thinking mans game. You have to properly strategize your own ways of taking control of the map or its power weapons. As well as focusing on what weapons you were given at the beginning of a match and properly using them. I do think Halo 4 disrespected that with weapon/sidearm/grenade/perks of custom loadouts. Now players are going to have to think and plan. And to me thats at the core of halo.
Breakout also has reduced shields or maybe its no shields. I don’t know that it will overtake Tslayer in the playlist but the more I watch the game type the more I like it.
what I don’t like is an smg start and how good it is at range with its tight pattern. It looks like it needs to be nerfed a little bit but I won’t know for sure till try it. I do think think it will be in tournaments.

I believe its that shield don’t recharge. I don’t know what it is, I just know shields are affected in gameplay.
I don’t think it will take over TS though. It’s too popular, and is probably the bread and butter of Halo.
I don’t think the SMG will always be the start weapon. Maybe just on crossfire. Well have to see how this develops. I imagine weapons like the AR will be starters. As well as the, BR and DMR.
I also agree it will be in tournaments. Like how in the Launch invitational and the teams played slayer, oddball, and ctf.
If breakout has no shields then the starts will always be automatics without headshot multiplier. if it started with BR or Pistol then it would be one life swat.

I found some gameplay of it that 343 put out themselves. There are shield, but they’re very weak considering how fast people broke them. That game had both SMG’s and Pistols for all players.
