This is more of just a few thing’s of why I like/dislike Halo 5’s Armor…
I like it because it’s an upgrade from Halo 4’s armor… In Halo 4 I thought the models looked a little cartoony and didn’t fit well with the game… especially the ODST helmet but I actually like the armor models for Halo 5 Guardians. As you can see I now wear the ODST helmet with pride but I kinda liked the back of the ODST chestpiece from halo 4 because I thought it made my spartan look more like an ODST than the current “Nightfall” variant… Hence why I chose the Soldier Leatherneck armor as I find it looks a bit more like an upgraded ODST and even the description for it says:
“The SOLDIER armor system has proven so adaptable that design features have been integrated into the latest ODST combat ensembles.”
This has kinda turned into more of the reasons why I chose my armor so I’ll talk more about customization.
The customization… Sucks… Not only is getting different armors and skins a lottery system but you can only have the helmet be different armor from the torso! I personally like Halo 4’s customization and leveling system over that of halo 5’s, and no I’m not talking about Halo 4 in the Master Chief Collection! The armor customization in that game is worse than halo 5’s!
As for armor variants? Eh… It’s a step up from Halo 4’s armor variants which were all just reskins of the same armor but you still have some of those as well in Halo 5.
All in all it’s a movement in the right direction from MCC but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a “step”… Hopefully Halo 6’s Armor & customization will be a bit more like in Halo REACH and 4. I feel that somewhere in there is the sweetspot in which people will finally be collectively happy about Halo’s Armors and their customization!

If Halo 6’s system were to be Halo 4’s customization options, then yes, I think that would be the sweet spot for customization options.
But armor…? No, I hate 343’s odd helmet design and skimpy armor with minimal lower abdominal protection along with the power ranger colored undersuits. Furthermore, they use sporty, oversaturated colors, mismatched secondary brightness on a plethora of armor sets AND unchangeable white or blue lines ruining others! A lot of their best armor is campaign armor or armor borrowed from a previous halo game, often smeared with unchangeable white lines or mismatched secondary brightness. Why?!
Hunter, Helljumper, Infiltrator would all be so much better without white lines! Hunter, Mark VI Gen 1, Mark VI Gen 2, would be great if the secondary color actually matched the primary color when both are on the same setting. Some of these artistic decisions just limit customization further for many people.

I have to agree with you on the smearing of white on armor! I personally think I got lucky with the Soldier Leatherneck and how the orange stripes look. I’m actually sort of satisfied with my armor but I feel I was one of the lucky ones with a color scheme that fit the fixed look of the armor. I was also upset when I saw the weird secondary colors on those armors as well… I honestly wonder what the hell 343 was thinking with that!?! I think it kinda makes sense to see it on the scarred variant of the Mark VI armor but the other armors? It really is one of those things that make me go “Why would you do that!?!” every time I see it.I also wonder as to why they make the undersuits colored as well but honestly I didn’t realize the “Skimpy”-ness of the armor until you pointed that out! That’s gonna start bugging me now…

343’s skimpy armor meshes wouldn’t bother me NEARLY as much if we had H4 customization along with consistent primary and secondary colors (like H4) and no unchangeable random colors on certain armor sets. But the customization is ALREADY limited, why limit it further but making certain secondary colors not match up on certain armors or adding random white lines.
I don’t mean to sound negative or to ruin your idea of armor. Halo 5 has a lot of good armor, or at least a lot of armor that has cool parts such as shoulders or legs, but the design decisions, I-I just don’t understand them!
(Sorry if I harp on about it too. I’m VERY passionate when it comes to armor customization.)

This, right here is my biggest problem with the armor in Halo 5. Not being able to individually customize arms, legs, etc.? Not being able to change the white stripes? Weirdly darkened secondary colors? Sure, those thing are all annoying, but not nearly as much as the fact that most of the helmets are simply too ugly to wear.

Honestly, I truly hate the option that you only can change the helmet and armor. As well as the weird, stupid design for some of armor. And the white stripes on the armor, I wish 343 could at least give us a third color changing option.

> I think 343 already realized that the quantity isn’t as important as the quality especially in halo 5 now because there are many posts about the difference of armor sets and I’m sure that it is getting better in halo 6 but I’ll still put my personal wishes about customization options into this post.
>
> So, I personally want the customization options of halo 4 or halo reach with some improved options. One of them would be a selection of different undersuit models like the ones of the campaign and of course the original black undersuit. Another point would be a “white stripe remover” to satisfy the majority of us or even a tertiary color option. Additionally to a custom HUD with different designs and colors as well. The next point could be hard to implement but I would also like see an whole color wheel of different colors for the armor.
>
> As I have said earlier, these are just my personal favorites. So, I would like to know about your thoughts or do you even have something to add ?
> Please let me know !
I never really liked the idea of having to choose from preset colors to begin with. So I definitely think the color wheel would be a good choice! As for the different HUD designs and colors I had often wondered why they don’t do that with this game? In the descriptions for some of the visors they clearly reference it being of a different HUD design than most others yet when you equip them it’s still the same exact HUD… I also feel that having a different colored Visor should change the tint of the players sight to whatever color that visor is or at least tint the edges of the screen. I personally don’t really care about the model of the undersuits really. It just doesn’t bother me as much as the actual armor itself. I awould however like to see a tershiary color as well! Instead of being stuck with whatever unchangeable colors you get on your armor.
One more thing about visors! I think the ambient detail of the visors should be based on the visors shape/size. In games like reach and 4 we got to see the faint outlines of the Mark VI armor even if we didn’t have it equipped on our characters. While I still find this cool it still bothered me and made me feel like I wasn’t playing with anything other than the Mark VI helmet. I would like to see this return but rather with the visor detail being more of that of which is currently equipped. I.E. if I’m playing with an ODST helmet then the faint outlines of the visor that are visible resemble the visor of said helmet.
Reach had infinitely better armor options.
Importing halo four armor was a horrible idea. The majority of their armor sets are indistinguishable from others. The helmets are terrible, with only a few truly good options.
Ditching the multiplayer system from halo four, with it’s loadouts, ordnance and maps was a good idea.
Importing the inferior armor sets from halo four was a terrible idea. I understand from a business stand point, that it’s cheaper to copy and paste an already completed product, but that only works when the product was superior to begin with.
“If It ain’t broke, dont fix it” doesn’t apply here 343.
I think it’s a big deal when the best armor in the game is all from the campaign or previous Halo games. There are a handful of new armor sets that are good or decent, but most are look like filler… which is what they are. 343 needed lots of armor for their dumb REQ system, so they flooded the game with a bunch of crap armor. Look at Reach, almost no “bad” armor is in that game, same with Halo 3. Now Halo 4 was alright as well, but they still did over saturated colors, colored body suits, no cod pieces, etc.
@MrLegohaloman7
Nightfall isn’t odst, no odst wears it.
It’s an oni variant.
At the end of the day, I just find it telling that many of the most popular armors are the ones 343 had little to do with.

Halo 5 (SPARTAN COMPANY) de achilles armor à difficile.
I like the one that looks like a baluga wale, it’s so weird and impractical but it just stands out. lol
Oh 343’s armor design is just down right horrible. They literally have like giant open spot for people to shoot and it just looks bad. It doesn’t help that they feel that ever armor variant needs to be a some special snowflake. Look at reach they just used the base spartan model and added on to it and it a consistent look to it. Also they tried to make the armor look skimpy but yet bulky at the same time and some have weird edges , protrusions, or simply to round. I Really like the Mark VI gen to just give it a black undersuit with a cod piece and you would basically have a proper updated version of the older armor.

To be fair Decimator is actually suppose to be what the Mark 7 looks like and the Mark V alpha isn’t exactly the same armor chief used.
I will never get over the huge “shot me in the guts please” openings on all of them. Like, seriously. Stomach shots are lethal people.

Well not if you are spartans apparently.

Mark 7 or not, the one Image of mk7 is hand drawn and shown from a hard to see angle.(the thursday war cover)
decimator’s helmet looks nothing like that helmet.
The very armors we asked for, and they give us some alternate version instead.
So because they couldn’t design a good remake they used the different variant excuse.
343 makes McDonald’s armor remakes.
