Every Halo 4 hate thread that I come across seems to mention the DMR and how it has essentially become the go-to weapon for everything in the game.
That’s 100% true.
I understand the need to mix it up with the precision rifles especially with the presence of custom classes, but what good does having one precision rifle that easily stands above the rest do? Aren’t we supposed to have options?
We’re left with no choice, unless of course, you’re playing on Ragnarok and want increased power at long range with the Light Rifle. But what other situations is that weapon effective in? Certainly not in close quarters battle or even mid-range engagements. Meanwhile the DMR completely wrecks the Battle Rifle and Light Rifle in almost all situations.
Honestly, the DMR is part of the reason as to why Halo 4 isn’t the Halo game I primarily play anymore. Just when you thought the weapon was unbearable in Reach, Halo 4 takes it to the next level with virtually no significant bloom effect and better performance in nearly all combat situations in comparison to its Reach counterpart.
Why didn’t the DMR remain in its Reach state for Halo 4 when you have two other precision weapons to choose from that lack any bloom and are underpowered in contrast to the DMR?
It’s far too late to mention this and this isn’t 343’s fault in any way, but I will proceed to do so anyway:
The Reach DMR should have been the Halo 4 DMR. With only one human precision rifle in Reach, it would have made far more sense to turn that rifle into a beast; Reach’s equivalent to Halo 2 and 3’s BR. But Reach isn’t the problem anymore.
Halo 4 should have preserved the original variation of the rifle for the sake of balancing it out. If having to pace your shots wasn’t your particular cup of tea, take the BR for a spin. And if a constant three-shot burst wasn’t your thing either, try out the Light Rifle to enjoy the best the DMR and BR have to offer.
This weapon’s gotta go. For the sake of this community and most importantly the gameplay, restore the Battle Rifle to its Halo 3 state and buff the Light Rifle.
I’d certainly prefer having two certified effective options over three options, two of which are practically useless.
