I’ve been having issues the last couple of days where Halo tells me I’ve been disconnected from Live and can’t play matchmaking, but I can still see friends and such. It’s happened sporadically before and could be fixed by going to the Network tab and choosing Xbox Live, but this time it wouldn’t let me change it. Restarting the game and console did nothing for it. Sometimes when I first get on, it will let me find a game and then say everyone left, then tell me I wasn’t connected again. The two times I’ve managed to make it in, I’ve been very laggy. My download is steadily at 30 meg and upload is 4 meg. I don’t know why this issue suddenly stared happening much more frequently than it ever has, and there aren’t any quick fixes that I have found.
I’ve also restarted my router (which is difficult as my landlords have control of it). Last night for about a half an hour, I was also switched to a secondary server and told “halo 4 servers are not available matchmaking has to using the default playlist.” I couldn’t talk to/join friends and almost nobody was on, and it still wouldn’t allow me to join games.
Hm, I’ve had that happen once or twice, but it never persisted to such an extent. Your bandwidth is more than adequate, but I also recommend trying pingtest.net to see if you have any packet loss issues.
Is the router shared among others? It’s possible someone else might be using up most of the bandwidth, especially if this suddenly started happening over the past few days.

Hey Thorn, just to clarify, is Halo 4 the only game where you’re experiencing this issue?
I do have one other person using my internet. My boyfriend plays Counterstrike on his PC while I play Xbox, and I know his game doesn’t take too much bandwidth. We also have been playing simultaneously for months without this issue. Like you, Crazy, I used to have it randomly once or twice, but now it’s continuous. I’ve also tried testing the game when he has been off of his computer for a while without any success.
I tried playing today and was matched up and put into a game, but before the game started, it told me it was choosing best host and everyone else left. When the game stopped, it told me I lost connection, so I tested MW3 for a few games and had no issues. I went back to Halo, played one game with some lag, which my teammates also encountered so it wasn’t just me, and then the next game it allowed me to search somewhat and then disconnected me. I went back to MW3 without changing any settings or signing out, and it worked just fine again.
I have run into this issue a few times myself. I assume that your Xbox is connected through an Ethernet cable and, if so, it sounds like your cable is going bad. When Ethernet cables start to go out they will suffer from timeouts and frequent packet loss but will still maintain a continuous connection. This can cause the same kinds of problems you describe.
I recommend replacing the Ethernet cable with a new one.
Nope, I’m running the dual antennae wifi adapter. I would love to run with an ethernet cord, but my Xbox is upstairs and the router is downstairs, which is my landlord’s part of the apartment. I’ve always had strong wifi connection to it, but they would never allow me to run a cord down there.
If you’re using WiFi and are getting a strong signal from the router, then the only thing I can think of is that the line coming to the house from your internet provider has got a lot of feedback, in which case your landlord would have to have them come out and check their wiring.
