Is there a difference in the amounts it crashes, I use the downloaded version and it crashes ever few games. I was just wondering is there a difference? Is the disc version more stable?
I always use disc versions. I think they are more stable but there really is no way to prove it either way. The best thing about having the disc for the game at least you have something to sell or trade later.
They’re the same actually. The disc is only used for two functional purposes: installing faster than downloading, and serving as the .exe to launch the game. Basically, once the game is installed from the disc, you now own the digital version that can only be launched while the disc is in the drive. No Xbone game actually “plays” off the disc. They’re all digital versions, where the disc isn’t really needed once installed, and yet the disc is required to be in the drive for some reason.
I’m all for digital. The only real reason to buy disc is to have a plastic case for collection purposes, to lend the game to friends, or to resell. If these three things don’t interest you, digital makes more sense.

Im pretty sure disc has to be in the drive in order to prove you own the game. When you download digital you also download a license to play it. Disc users never download that license, so in order to prove they own the game, they must put the disc in to verify. I’m pretty sure after the game boots up, you can take the disc out, while its running.

I think disc version is more stable because you get a better install IMO. These Xbox ones WiFi isn’t very good and I think that is leading to a lot of problems with games. When I play wired I have practically zero issues. When I play on WiFi I notice more frame drops or even freezes during the game.

also let’s not assume everybody has access to uncapped internet with a fast download
Disk = Faster Download and Less Accessablity
Digital = Longer Download and Instant Accessabilty
With Halo 5 you might as well get it digitally since there is about 50GB worth of updates anyway.

The thing against digital is the cost. Currently selling for £5 more than I bought a physical copy for on release day. That’s £30 more than I can find a brand new disc copy for now.

I agree…
i use the disc version and it has freezed something like once in a month or so and has had some connection problems. (which lower the rank on multiplayer, -Yoink- that).

Does it use less memory?

Nope. They use the exact same memory. Let’s say for convenience sake H5 base game is exactly 50 GB and the updates add up to exactly 50 GB. Whether you install from disc or digital, you’re going to end up with 100 GB on your drive either way!
Hope I’ve helped!

This is definitely true. Post launch discs get much cheaper, likely due to physical sales being down about 50% year over year. Distributors are trying to keep discs popular.

I think nobody here is advocating strongly for one way over the other. It’s a preference thing. They both lead to the same product, and have relatively minor differences. I bought H5 digitally because I was tired of playing the -Yoink- out of precious Halos and having to buy multiple copies of the disc because it got scratched to hell in the drive (happened to H3 and Reach!). I also knew I wasn’t going to resell it.
I preordered and bought TitanFall 2 as a disc version because I didn’t play the first one and didn’t know if I would like it. I wanted to have that option in my pocket to resell or gift it to a friend.

That’s an interesting point. My instincts lead me to defend the wifi since I’ve had good luck with it but I wonder if there is a difference in a cleaner install. Hypothetically there shouldn’t be. I am not fluent in computer speech, but I know there is a handshake protocol with downloading things where the sending unit (server) would basically say “I’m sending you X MB of data - data sent - did you receive the data” and the Xbone should respond with yes/no essentially. The downloaded files should also be verified to be accurate.
I’ll have to look into this further in interested now lol.

That’s exactly true, and exactly what I was saying. You’re just more thorough and tech-savvy lol. My point of contention and frustration is an easy fix- download the license off the disc. If you ever resell the disc or give the game to a friend, a message could pop up on their Xbone saying “you must move the license to this console to play- move license?”
Seems more convenient to me lol. I would buy a lot more discs if you didn’t need the disc post-install.
I’m digital all the way
Discs are cheaper.
I couldn’t compare it. I’ve got the digital version due and rarely run in to problems. Sure, I get frame rate drops, crashes once in a while. But I put that down to my internet provider and being in the UK.

(sorry for late response to this) I was just curious because I have heard rumors that the disc version crashes less. (This is a huge issue for me).
There might be something up with your console OP
I have the download as well and if anything I get a crash once a month.

It’s quite impossible to prove either way. I say using a wired connection is more important as far as not crashing or disconnecting. But disc versions are superior to digital versions in that at least with a disc you OWN the game. You have something to sell or trade later. With a digital version you have nothing once you are done with it.
