There are too many things wrong with this game for me not to put my word out. It’s just frustrating, especially when you spend $100 on it. Spoilers ahead
One of the first things wrong with Halo 5 is the campaign. I LOVED Halo 4’s campaign, probably my favorite in the series. The way it set up for Halo 5 and Halo 5’s epic marketing with Chief vs. Locke and Chief going rogue actually has no relation to the campaign at all in this game He didn’t go rogue and his reasoning for going AWOL was completely justified, making the podcast series a complete blow over from what actually happens. Chief and Locke don’t fight at all or at least to the degree that the Chief kills Locke or Locke kills Chief trailer. In these trailers they it seems like they are mortal enemies and makes you believe the campaign is going to be a epic battle between Locke and Chief, when none of this happens.
Moving on to the campaign, it was meh. The ending was a cliffhanger like Halo 2 except it wasn’t earned at all and the story didn’t seem to have anything surprising or epic with the exception of the elite civil war. Oddly enough, that isn’t the center piece of the campaign but it’s the best part. Cortana’s new role as the reclaimer is interesting. The -Yoinking!- warden is a no, though. Like angry joe said, they could’ve had a epic boss battle between Chief and Locke that would blow peoples minds and do the marketing campaigns justice. Instead, we fight the same damn guy like 8 times in the campaign. They even have the audacity to make him a boss in warzone, as if we didn’t fight him enough times.
Multiplayer. Ohhh Multiplayer Let me start off by saying that I love the new spartan movement options. They all feel very fluid and certainly evolved combat. However, thats not my gripe with the multiplayer. It’s that the spawns are janky af with the mediocre to good maps. 8 Player FFA feels like RNG when it comes to spawning. You either get a good spawn or a bad spawn, and usually a bad spawn that ends up with you asap. I think there are about 4 maps in this game that I like, which are Truth, Eden, Plaza, and Colosseum, Colosseum, Orion, and Pegasus all look like they were made in forge, though, with almost no inspiration on them. Then aiming is -Yoinked!- to the max but the 343 say that it’s meant to be this way and the mechanics are working fine when everyone across TeamBeyond, Reddit, and the official Halo forums, which they don’t even respond to, all hate the new aiming. The aim acceleration and deadzones for this game are screwed. The radar is small and you can’t even use it dependably.
Finally, there aren’t enough playlist in this game. 7 Launch day playlists? You had more in Halo 4 and MCC even after it was “fixed” which you still haven’t done completely. Team Arena has breakout, when if I want to play breakout I will go to the breakout playlist. Next, there isn’t enough gametypes. What happened to oddball, grifball, that AMAZING new gametype YOU invented Ricochet, BTB with BTB maps, king of the hill, etc. What the hell happened to all of those? I know BTB and Forge are coming later, but that’s no exception for the other modes.
I don’t know, I got a Xbox One for MCC and Halo 5, when both have disappointing me. I know there isn’t a lot of organization behind this post, but it’s just my general frustration with this game. I think i liked Halo 4 even more, and when the backwards compatibility is back I will happily go back and play those games. Criticize my post, but I just wanted to get my frustration out with this game. It had and still has potential, but I don’t think the developers are very cooperative, and possibly the pro team is getting paid off on their explanations of problems in this game. Depending on how this game evolves, I may or may be here for Halo 6 and just watch the cut scenes on youtube
