Disappointed with the Achievements

Be warned, this discussion could potential contain spoilers.

Anyway: so I was going through the achievements list, not very excited with what I was seeing. It was mostly the standard types of achievements I’ve come to expect from most games. But then, I came across these:

> Change your Emblem in the Spartan ID card.

Seriously? These types of achievements again. To say I’m disappointed is an extreme understatement. After the amazing achievements seen in Halo CEA, I was expecting Halo 4 to follow through with some great ones of its own. But low and behold, my disappointment.

So, I ask my fellow forum goers: are you satisfied with the Achievements for Halo 4?

I’d rather take easy multiplayer achievements than those annoying ones from the previous games. They just hurt the MP experience by encouraging players to act selfishly and not help their team. Plus, the ones you have listed are only worth 5 points a piece and are solely designed around getting newbies to try out all of the game’s features. At least the campaign ones are looking pretty good.

Overall, I’m satisfied w/ enough things to achieve until the DLC hits and we hopefully get more things like the Vidmasters and less things like the map-specific MP achievos of the past.

All I really wanted to get was long achievements on where I will play the most (multiplayer). Like killtacular, invincible, something like that. I dont care if people will boost them.

It would be awesome to have achievements like in previous games, but if they stick with these new ones then I guess I’m down.

I get the feeling that these aren’t all of the achievements that are going to be in Halo 4. I’m sure there may be more challenging ones as well as added achievements from future Spartan Ops seasons.

Easy, cheap and quite pointless. However, I’d rather take those over 2 for one or the crazy Reach DLC achievements any day. To bad we didn’t get any new “good” or unique ones that inspired challenge in a good way ^^

Well, there are obviously some bad MP achievements out there, but these are just a waste of potential achievements. Halo CEA had 47 achievements, and taking out the usual “play the game” and “find the hidden stuff” there were some great achievements that encouraged the player to rethink how they would play a level or a particular encounter. That’s the kind of thing I was hoping to see.

I second that. I believe more challenging achievements are on the way but the ones listed in the OP are disappointing to me as well. Especially the file uploads, theatre and forge. It’s like they are just giving those away.

I would like to see achievements that actually take skill and a good amount of thought to accomplish but it is always good to have a range of easy to difficult achievements with the right amount of pay out.

Overall I am satisfied.

no not disappointed at all. I mean yes they are fairly easy but id rather focus on story and Mp rather than -Yoink- around with acheevos

I rather have this achievement than the ones in Reach’s DLC.

I’m all for achievements that encourage variety and different forms of playstyle.

At least there’s no stupid achievements that encourage boosting like killing two players with one shot from a Spartan Laser in free-for-all. Or getting map specific achievements.

Hey, I thought up a new one.
“In a matchmade game with no parties of free-for-all, kill a higher ranked player with a Magnum at 4:30-5:15 after the game has started during a double kill after a lower ranked player with a shotgun on the map Breakdown during a game of headhunter while carrying three skulls.”

Some of the achievements are pretty ridiculous. They are so stupidly simple. This is there way of making you feel like you are doing something lol. It’s no different from some of the dumb medals we’ve seen like, “get a kill medal” or a medal for rockets, etc.

I wish I could hear their explanation for these useless achievements and medals.

Achievements are achievements, they’re just small extra goodies for generally achieving something (hence their name). However, in the case of the more easy-to-obtain achievements you listed in the OP, it seems like these are there to encourage players to explore other parts of the game or use features that some players might not use otherwise.

For example, the “create and save a Forge map” achievement. I rarely Forge, and I don’t particularly enjoy Forging creations, however this achievement at least encourages me to explore a realm of the game I wouldn’t usually. And who knows, maybe I’ll find something I wouldn’t’ve noticed and it could turn my perspective around. Granted, this scenario isn’t likely to happen, however its certainly not hurting anybody or anything in the process.

There’s plenty of achievements that may force the player to think outside-the-box, not to mention some that look quite difficult, like CEA’s. Seems like a very minute thing to be displeased with, honestly.

Yeah, me too
But as I concluded before, it seems Halo 4s main focus was and is multiplayer, the thing that sells gold subscriptions and 360s/720s. I hope 343i decided to scrap any original/innovative achievement ideas due to time limits, and are going to add them for Halo 5 instead.
I’d love to see Halo CEA style achievements, or just a few good old vidmasters, achievements that forces you to think outside the box when you play. Having “upload a pic/get a kill” style achievements is more an insult, they’re not even an “achievement”, even my cat can manage if you give it enough time. ^^

I find the Halo 4 achievements to be quite enjoyable.

I’m looking forward to the action and the challenges that they will posses in obtaining them.

That one of completing a Spartan Ops mission solo on Legendary seems like it will put up a good fight since 343 has already stated it will be difficult going at it solo.

I’m very happy with Halo 4’s achievements. Emphasis on Campaign and no ridiculous Multiplayer achievements. I’m looking at you, Two For One.

I, too, am also disappointed by the lack of uniqueness to the achievements. I’m happy that there are no ridiculous Multiplayer ones a la Reach, yet I would have loved to have seen something “more” to them.

I can understand trying to play it safe and not force people to go achievement hunting, though.

The Halo games are being made for the less skilled population – From the looks of it

They want everyone to be able to get max rank and achievements without skill

Hopefully the others are harder and better .

And in the end I don’t really care about achievements

Even when I was in-game, I thought the same thing. The achievements you named above are not geared towards those of us who know how to work these things. But then again, to a new player, this would seem like a good introduction to the many different things available to them within the Halo game experience. Ultimately, I’m ok with them being there.

I do concur this seems like a new approach to things, but in the end, this is ok for new people. My disappointment is similar to yours that there seems to be a lack of achievements for multiplayer fans. However, you are also forgetting something… the DLC map packs.

The achievements aren’t to bad. They don’t sound as hard as anniversary but who knows
