Firefight is one of my favorite things about Halo since it was first shown in ODST. Fighting wave after wave of Covenant with some friends or do it alone, and the new customizations you can add to it (Gruntpocalypse, Hunters only, etc). I was hoping to play Firefight again in Halo 4 with all of the new features such as loadouts and the brand new armor abilities, but sadly that cannot happen since it was removed.
I will admit, Spartan Ops looks pretty interesting. It’s pretty much it’s own show with episodes, but you can actually play it in as your Spartan.2 It’s cool and all, but I have already seen some reviewers say there is no replay value to them. Although, I can’t really justify this for myself, I can still understand why they say this. Firefight become part of matchmaking in Halo Reach, and it actually benefit you as you could still rank up, complete challenges, and earn commendations.
Overall, I am skeptical about how Spartan Ops will be like. Will it actually be fun and want to bring me back or will it just be a one time thing and become rather boring? Either way, I would prefer having Firefight over this Spartan Ops. Anyone else agree and is disappointed with the removal of Firefight?
Nothing can and would beat ODST’s firefight I didn’t particularly like Reach’s. ODST just needed matchmaking for it. But overall, I’m not disappointed with the removal I can always go play ODST (ps:Buck is amazing)
Maybe they can use parts of the Spartan Ops maps for Firefight?
I don’t know, I’m sure a lot of people would like that. Some people just like mindlessly holding out against wave after wave of A.I. with no narrative, just survival.
I know they have said that Spartan Ops is an “evolution” from Firefight, but I just don’t see it having the same appeal or replay value that FF did. Not to say that it’s bad or anything, it looks great.
I don’t think firefight really feels like “survival” when you’re a spartan. In ODST you felt like a human and it was a real struggle, but in Reach you were a tank with legs slaughtering anything that moved.
Yeah I’m disappointed about the removal of Firefight, I mean, what was the need to remove it? Spartan Ops sounds awesome but they had may as well kept firefight, why wouldn’t they? Who knows, but it will be missed
I personally liked ODST’s firefight better than Reaches. Sure, the customization was fun, but I still did not get the feeling of survival like in ODST. So I really dont mind It’s gone

Replay value depends on you. I will play it a lot, because I also love to replay the Campaign over and over again. You can rank up in Spartan Ops, it’s part of Infinity (multiplayer) and it will have challenges and commendations. It will also give you EXP if you complete a mission.
I love the idea of Spartan Ops, because more story is always better.
And if I want to play firefight I still have two games where I can play it on.
Firefight was a nice thought, but there was too much downtime between waves. And it was always either way too hard, or pitifully easy. Hopefully Spartan Ops can strike a better balance or something.
ODST was one of the best halo campaigns ever and had the best atmosphere …and the music was incredible! jeeez …better firefight than reach 4 sure, only good FF in reach was Limited and legerndary LTD…
OT:
it is quite sad knowing it’s gone now…i mean spartan ops will be the bomb ,but i will miss FF for sure…
on a side note:
wouldn’t it be great to see another halo:odst set between halo 5 and halo 6?
or at least a halo game where you play as a normal human again…
i got it! a gory horror survival shooter
featuring the flood …anybody seen mona lisa on waypoint? that would be a kick -Yoink- game!!!
beeing a marine not even a helljumper…
Yea i want to be in there but what are young going to do. I thought they could put both Spartan Ops, and Firefight in there
I loved ODST and Reach Firefight but i like Reach’s better because I’m mostly a single player so as a ODST death by random explosion sucked so when Reach came around i was happy… until the Skirmishers came… shudders
Firefight became a bit of a joke when it came out in Reach. Almost no one wanted to play ‘classic’ Firefight anymore, people wanted FRGfight or Rocketfight because the normal Firefight was boring in Reach. ODST had it right, you were a human and you have limited resources against unlimited waves of Covenant. Every game ended when everyone died, not when you’ve completed a set or something.
Shoulda made a poll.
Yeah I’m gonna miss it as a low stress warmup round but its mostly boosters and griefers in matchmaking anyways, maybe 1 in 5 games is actually played by all 4 people…
ODST was better because it was limited on the player side when it came to health and weapons and ammmo. In Reach it was different because we were playing as Spartans and we had more then enough ammo to burn through, but the arcade version of Firefight was shoved down our throughts and people rarely played or could play the limited version (with lives). It was less about survival and more about points in Halo Reach, which wasn’t bad, but it was different from ODST.
I’ll miss Firefight, had alot of good times with it in ODST and in Reach, but I am looking forward to the objective/narrative successor to it: Spartan Ops.
