Story was boring!!! 343 told us through the trailers that the Master Chief would be hunted. That the story would dig into his past and that he would be chased and hunted by a Spartan that meant business. The trailers showed us Locke against Chief where both of them laid beaten and bruised in what was supposed to be a glorious Spartan vs Spartan battle. Instead we got a minute fist fight between the both of them.
No shots fired, no big bullet hole in either of them like what was shown in the trailer, no satisfying chase. And oh yeah that cracked visor you saw the chief with in that awesome desert trailer? Yep no desert and its cracked because Locke simply punched him in that 1 minute fight. And about the Master Chief disobeying orders and defying the UNSC?? That does not happen either. All he does is simply say “No” and is marked absent without leave.
He is not being hunted because he is standing up for something that is great or because he has gone dark or some interesting reason. He is hunted all because he wants to meet CORTANA who I am sure we are all tired of hearing about. Halo 5 is about a dramatic AI. That’s it.

The I agree that the marketing was way off base. I would have enjoyed the story more without the overwrought marketing.

I’m very disappointed in the story. From the lack of Chief and blue for 13 missions and the badly paced story, i just feel gutted. This is all that they could come up with? seriously? I really expected something special. There’s not much to the story and yet we only really get and decent story at the end of the game. It was a set-up for Halo 6, they should have just made this a graphic novel instead then had H5 start where it ended.
Story was good. It could of had more personality,but it was far from bad.
Totally agree. We already looked for Cortana in Halo 3 and found her. Why the hell does 343i think it’s a good idea to keep doing that? My goodness, at this point, I’m starting to prefer Destiny: The Taken King.
I thought the campaign was good - with a bit of a “That’s it?” ending to it. I think it was just hyped too much or something and completely set up for Halo 6.
Also it didn’t feel like a proper Halo campaign at times because:
- 3 missions / 1 hour with Master Chief - You’re never alone. Always with a squadAlso it was the shortest campaign to date (for me) Just 6 hours to complete on Heroic.
I thought it was pretty good. The Locke missions were far more fun to play than Chiefs, the civil war on Sanghelios was absolutely fantastic and fighting alongside the Arbiter and his followers was all I could of hoped for.
The “twist” with AI’s claiming the mantle was brilliant as well, because it makes sense that they would assume that role. 343 was leading up to this point all along you can see it in their past work.
Not playing as Chief wasn’t the issue really, because although I love Chief and Blue Team I think Halo needs to start moving on and develop new stories and characters for us to get involved with.
I did like being part of a fireteam all the time, but the commands didn’t work too well during gameplay and they died ALOT (on heroic anyway).
I liked the story, but it seemed like 343 may have cut some things before launch. They early trailers and hype don’t match up to the actual story, and the cutscenes seem a little cut up to me; in a premature sense. Not that it’s a big deal, game companies do that pretty often. Just an opinion based on observation.
Good thing i stay away from most trailers, i enjoy the campaign more.
In terms of the game, Chief and Blue Team kinda was hunted for a while, so advertising was slightly right, but skewed from the main story.
