Disable bans until you can fix the game 343

You guys acknowledged that the matchmaking is wonky, yet you keep the bans in. You acknowledged the crashing, yet you keep the bans in. I can’t join BTB matches 80% of the time, or I get "Connection Lost, stuck in the loading screen forever, or booted “offline” with “Matchmaking is unavailable”, since it can’t connect to servers. Meanwhile, I’m stuck playing BTB matches with 5 or 6 people on my team almost every match I can actually get in, and if I’m lucky, it won’t crash. In Quick Play, I crashed 8 times. Why would I quit a match I’m winning? The ban can’t even tell the difference, but you have crash logs, right?

Don’t have BTB Challenges when BTB is broken

I’m not going to be able to finish my final ultimate weekly challenge, because I can’t even play a stable match, and now my friend and I had to waste time waiting for each other’s bans to end. Disable bans until your game is fixed, or just only have them in Ranked. People can barely play the game as it is.

You may as well give us this weekly skin for free again at this point. If I can play 2 matches in a row with no issues , it’s a miracle. Using 2XP is a massive waste.

Microsoft owns Halo, they own Windows, they own Xbox. There’s no way Microsoft doesn’t have the technology to tell when someone force closed a game or if it crashed.

  • Pressing Leave Game is a manual quit ban
  • Unexpected crashes leave a note in the crash log file
  • Pressing Dashboard, Power, Alt+F4, or CTRL+ALT+DEL means you force quit
  • If you aren’t loaded into a match being stuck loading, it should automatically ignore a ban and go back to the menu
  • If you lose connection to the Halo server, but can still ping Google.com or Xbox.com, it was Halo’s fault, and your internet is still on and working
  • If you lose all internet connection, or power, it marks it as a possible power outage, but if it happens again the same day, it’s a ban

agreed remove all penalties for disconnect until you fix the issues, yes people are gonna leave and abuse it, but that’s because things are broken…

This is pure misery. I got unbanned, finally after 8 attempts got a match to start, I’m now just stuck in an infinite tips loading screen, with no loading symbol on the left. My only option is to Alt+F4 and risk another ban. It’s absurd how poor the server conditions are. I wasted 10x the amount of time it should have taken me to complete the weekly, entirely due to the game just not working. I give up. I cannot get these last kills because I can’t even play matches. I’m wasting hours over this nonsense.

Edit: Tried one more time, same problem. Matches keep failing to start, finally start one, stuck in a never ending loading tips screen with no loading symbol. I am sick of this.

Takes me forever to get a game too…

Could at least put some free for all set ups that the bans shouldn’t effect. You got no teammates to screw over so leaving them early shouldn’t hurt anyone. Even getting banned in team oriented game modes, you are still aloud to play free for all matches no problem.

I would love an FFA Playlist. FFA Slayer, FFA Swords, FFA Oddball, FFA Swat, plenty of existing modes already in the game, yet no FFA Playlist. For a game designed around showing our custom colors, it should be the first mode we got.

I wish 343 would get rid of the stupid bans that punish people just for trying to play. But sadly this won’t happen because 343 just doesn’t care. They have been punishing people for years in MCC for the exact same reasons. They release broken games and then punish other people for their mistakes.

It’s definitely not a way to get new people to want to play your game. People will very quickly move on to something else when this kind of stuff happens.

It was a thing all the way since Halo 2. Because people were constantly have matches ruined by quitters within a 1 ore so of the match start. Then people started using crashes or pulling their ethernet cords to try to get around abandonment penalties so they had to start including those in the ban.

The community being a bad sport is the direct reason why they are even a thing. As well as why they’ll probably never go away… They attempted once I was told during I think 4, but it was quickly turned around and reinstated…

I get that for ranked playlists. But for playlists that are supposed to be “social” that also have join-in-progress, I don’t understand the point.

Also, you would think that if it’s a problem that’s been going on for 15 years, they would at least be able to design a system that can do a better job of identifying when the problem is with their game and not because someone is purposely disconnecting.

It being social is irrelevant if the problem is big enough that it needs to be addressed unfortunately. Games were unbearable in Halo 2 thanks to people constantly abandoning matches.

I believe they also mentioned that some instances it’s not possible to tell the difference, which is why they just treat them all as abandoning, or so they claim.

If the problem is that big, then the problem is because something is wrong with the gameplay itself. In that case the gameplay is what needs to be fixed.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why people are purposely quitting out of games in Halo Infinite. But instead of actually fixing the problem, 343’s solution is to punish people that aren’t purposely quitting.

It’s a bandaid over a symptom, NOT a solution to the problem.

Most of the time people leave matches because they only care about their own enjoyment and not a damn about the rest of the people playing. The instant they feel that they lost they abandonship.

This is a community fault, and to an extent a matchmaking fault more then anything. The only way to really change a bad mindset in people is to implement something that forcibly deters them from wanting to pick that option. Which is why abandonment penalties were implemented.

They are testing out things though to try and help it, but most of it is unfortunately nothing more then band--Yoink!- at best for a bleeding gash of a wound. Bots taking over spots people have left, only for the bots to be cannon fodder that a single person can take an entire group of them out themselves. Having players forcibly replace players in matches, which means that instead of punishing the cause of the problem, they’re punishing other people in their place in an attempt to repair damage done. This often just makes the person who was forced to just want to quit themselves.

There’s not really much they can really do.

I have rarely seen this in Halo Infinite. (Again, I am talking about Quickplay and BTB, not ranked.)

What I see more often is players quitting as the match is starting or very soon after. It seems very likely, especially given the online feedback, that this is due to a player not getting the map or the game type that they want. THAT is the problem. Putting a ban on players doing that is just a bandaid on the symptom, which will result in people not playing the game.

Instead they need to actually fix the problem, which would be to make changes to the challenge system and the game selection process.

(Also, they could very easily fill in with higher level bots.)

They have crash logs and can make an anticheat that can log whether the game crashed unexpectedly or was force closed, or the player manually quit the match. They can also log if the player lost connection to the Halo server, or if their own internet lost connection, by testing ping and packet loss, trying to ping other websites. If an unexpected crash log is generated, the game wasn’t force closed or the power wasn’t cut. If you can still ping websites, but you were booted offline because you lost connection to Halo servers, then your internet is working fine, and the servers were the fault. If you get stuck in a loading screen for more than 2 minutes and aren’t in the match, it should cancel matchmaking and return to the menu instead of forcing you to close the game. There has to be some way to tell the differences with modern technology. I find it hard to believe that Microsoft has no control over their own Xbox and Windows technology. This type of anticheat should be very possible by now

Exactly what happened to me last night - unfair, and pointless

Crash bans not in ranked maybe, but other then that the bans really need to increase for pc hackers

I don’t use the 2xp things but from how long we spent in queue playing connection roulette I saw friends’ timers ping out when we hadn’t even gotten into more than one game yet. That’s really frustrating that they don’t function on in-match time when the connection issues haven’t been fixed yet.

bad idea … it should be timed when you disconnected ive just had a game where my team were disconnecting near the start they loaded in and then half way we had 5 or 6 players left … enemy team lost 4 or 5 players but its a joke the ban should be labbeled at how long in you left if the timer is 0 no action any time after that it should be a ban but more than a 15 min ban … just trying to do one challenge and every game ive been in loads leave mid way through

Not how that works. I played BTB last night and the enemy team lost everyone but 4 players by the end of the match. The match took super long to start up because 4 crashed loading in, and 4 more crashed halfway through. Microsoft owns Halo, they own Windows, they own Xbox. There’s no way Microsoft doesn’t have the technology to tell when someone force closed a game or if it crashed.
