For most (all?) FPS games on PC it is standard to have direct weapon binds in addition to a bind to scroll through the weapons. The fact, that this standard feature is missing in Halo Infinite, was quite a surprise for me. Can we please have direct weapon binds on PC!
Also when switching with the mouse wheel it does not wrap around, which is really annoying. If you reach the “end of the list of weapons” it selects the same weapon again, rather than starting from the other end.

This has to be a troll, right?
You can only carry 2 weapons so direct weapon binds would make no sense… A simple weapon swap key (which exists) would always be better.

This is no joke or trolling. Just having two separate keys makes sense for me. This is how my brain is wired after playing FPS (with varying amounts of weapons available) for more than 20 years. Also it is not hard to do: Just give me 2 direct weapon binds and the already existing swap button, which has it’s problems when bound to the mouse wheel.

I agree the mouse wheel scrolling needs improving but asking for weapon specific binds is pretty unreasonable.
Again there is no scenario in halo where a weapon swap key isn’t better than explicit weapon binds. Last I counted, there are 25+ weapons currently in halo (there will be more in the future) - you want to bind all of those to keys? Why would you do that when a single key will always get you the same result?
I’m so confused ha.

Take Call of Duty as an example. Your loadout is also very limited a primary and a secondary gun. You can choose from an even longer list to fill those two slots.
Still it has direct weapon binds for those two weapons. It is fine for old school PC players (where CoD originated) and for the console folks (where you don’t want 10 direct weapon binds, like the Quakes had). I am just asking Halo Infinite to be on par with how CoD has been for 10+ years. Does this sound unreasonable?

So in CoD if you press 1 for example but you’re holding a weapon in the primary slot, it would not switch?
Could you keybind 1 and 2 to switch weapon?
There’s no reason for you to press the button unless you’re ant to switch weapon so it shouldn’t confuse the issue?
Halo Infinite is apparently allowing triple keybinds.

I just want direct keys to select the primary and secondary weapon, instead of a key to switch from one to the other.

There is no “primary” and “secondary” - you just have 2 weapons. If for some reason you want a key to map to weapon slot 1 and a key to map to weapon slot 2,just map swap weapon to both keys. The only scenario that doesn’t cover is if you have weapon 1 and hit the key for select weapon 1,it would switch to weapon 2 instead of do nothing.
But why on earth would you want a mapping for “do nothing” and then want to press it too? That’s nonsensical.
If you have weapon 1 and are asking for a keybind such that when you press it, it does nothing because it is supposed to switch to the weapon you already have, I’d ask that you seriously reflect on the pointlessness of the ask. If that isn’t what you are asking for, just bind swap weapon to 2 keys.

Why do you argue against an additional feature, which does not affect you? I would understand if you would be the product owner, but as another user…

This type of system is only worth having if you have 3 or more weapons.
I think it would be good for the grenade types as currently you have to press two buttons to get the desired grenade instead of just one.

New features
A) take development time (away from other features) - in this case it is a 100% redundant feature
B) add additional clutter to the menu (again for a 100% redundant feature)
C) open up the possibility of additional bugs (for no benefit since, again, this feature is 100% redundant).
Perhaps you can expand on why this is different than than just double binding the swap weapon command to 2 different keys and why that difference is meaningful (I’ve already outlined the only difference and it’s a nonsensical use case)?

You really sound like a product owner. If you don’t know this role of agile software development, look it up.

I’m a senior compiler engineer so I understand what’s involved in this type of thing.
You haven’t been able to describe any actual benefit to your request that isn’t either 100% redundant with weapon swap or a nonsensical use case (like “swap” to weapon 1 when you already have weapon 1 equipped). Maybe describing beyond what’s already been discussed would benefit this discussion.
