We’ve seen books based on videogames, especially with the Halo franchise, but I’ve only read about a handful of videogames based on books–and not just based on, but actually following the narrative of the book. These were much older games, and I don’t think we see these literal adaptations anymore.
So if you had to pick a Halo novel to turn into a video game, which one would you most like to see and why?
If I had to choose one it would probably be the Fall of Reach.
But honestly I think it would be kind of pointless to produce a game in which the entire plot is already known and readily available. There would be no real surprises in it at all if it was a straight up adaption.
It is different for books based on games as they are able to expand on the events in more detail than a video game can.
I would personally prefer to see them visually adapted like what was done for Headhunters.
Problem for most Halo books, especially ones that already exist, is that their campaigns wouldn’t be very gameplay heavy or long. Their narrative drives focus less on protracted combat moments in the Haloverse. Makes it a little difficult to make a game with a full campaign if you’re to stay faithful to the books.
I dunno, I would not really like a book to game thing. I would rather have a game based on something completely new. But if I had to choose then maybe Contact Harvest, because I have not read that one (and probably won’t, I get bored easily).
First Strike would be amazing…
It sounds like something I’ve been wanting for a while. But really, I think a movie (Or even Blur CGI) adaptation would serve much good.
The Forerunner Saga would make an amazing Halo game.
There’s tonnes of unexplored content as well as things to expand upon. It would be super awesome to use Forerunner technology such as War Sphinx/Seekers and fight the Flood at their peak!
Broken Circle would be great :3
I’d love to see the Headhunter story made as a playable game. Hell I want a game with Roland and Jonah as the main characters in general.
Honestly, even though storylines would be predictable, I’d love to see book-to-game adaptations for this series just to be able to see a lot of the settings. While I wouldn’t be surprised by the storyline much, I may still react to actually seeing things in action and I know certain environments would blow me away to see in-game. Not to mention I think if I had to see adaptations of books, I rather see them done in games or in a TV/online show series before I did a movie. Games tend to have a base of 5 hours of gameplay and, in my opinion that’s a lot better than two hours at most for a movie that would more than likely be rushed, especially when it comes to portraying certain characters.
While I’d love to get the Red Team perspective ( and even jumping to Blue Team’s for a mission or two ) of Reach, I think the next book I’d want to see turned into a game would be Ghosts of Onyx. First of all, you’d finally have backstory for the S-IIIs in game format for people ( Yeah, I’m staring at you, Reach ) by starting at the beginning with a cut scene showing some information about what the program is, defining the training, etc. They could even include the beginning portion with Beta Company’s mission before jumping to the point with Gamma Company. Then it’d be easy to transition into possibly playing as like Team Saber for example during their training exercise and coming across the sentinels. Continue through the steps of getting to camp, going through that, eventually getting to the Forerunner structure, and handling all of that.
Anyway, reason why I’d love to see GoO done ( aside from that being one of my favorite storylines, especially for S-IIIs ) is just because it has a good mix of everything. You get to deal with Forerunner constructs, the Covenant, and not to mention it’d be great seeing the structures that would eventually lead to a shield world. I just enjoy seeing more of the Forerunner structures described in the books coming into the games and other media finally. I’d also just like to see Onyx as a whole. It feels like we really haven’t seen a lot of planets in the games, let alone fight on them because you’re typically set to be fighting on ships or the same type of Forerunner constructs usually.
So yeah, I think it’d be interesting for them to do that since they have a good bit at their disposal.
First Strike would make an excellent adaptation. And possibly some of the sub-plots from Halo: The Flood.
