What Do you think about Digital Downloading Of Video Games on Xbox live???
I like it. I love more options. If I had a bigger HD and I if I didn’t have to wait, I would probably do it more.
I’m iffy on it.
I’d much, MUCH rather have the hard copy, but it’s a good alternative if you can’t find the game anywhere. Case in point: Transformers: War for Cybertron. I can’t find that game at ANY store, but it’s on Live, and I plan on buying it on Christmas.
I prefer to have a physical copy, but for games that are hard to find, debuted on obsolete platforms, or are smaller than average, the download option comes in handy. I think the one advantage DL’s have over hard copies is that Microsoft (and Sony too, I imagine) allows for free re-downloading if the data is lost or corrupted; whereas replacing a physical copy is usually significantly more expensive- though, depending on the game, not necessarily more difficult.
Digital Copies only last as long as the servers for it are up. Disc copies however will work until the console dies…
I can dig it. I’m waiting for the time to come when new releases will be put up on release day. Maybe they’ll do it with Halo 4. Keeps me from standing around for hours outside of a store waiting to get a game when I could be playing until the time it is released.

Or unless the disc stops working from microscratches, dust, general use, etc…

Well, yeah, there’s always the chance for that…
I think simultaneous digital and retail release would be good, but only if digital was cheaper. There’s no need for it to cost as much as a retail game when all you’re getting is a code. There’s no manufacturing or shipping costs, so why should it still cost the same?
I really like it! I’d rather have a hard copy, because I like to look at my collection of video games, especially for halo, but I bought Halo Wars on demand and it is pretty cool to be able to just start up the game from your library.

Exactly! I wouldn’t mind paying 50 for a new release GoD game and 60 for the physical retail copy. That ten buck difference is the lack of making, shipping, packaging, manual (which are pretty much non-existent nowadays) and the disc. It makes relevant sense to me.
I like digital. I only say that now that I have Reach on my console. It does make things easy for those of us too lazy to change a disc out of the tray.
But on the flip side, it is so damn expensive. There are games that I can find new (Mass Effect) cheaper than I can find on GoD. That’s what irks me.
I like having a physical copy and all the stuff that comes with it, but i love not having to change disks.
Developers should just charge $70 or so and include a digital copy of the game as well. It’s not like they’re losing manufacturing costs on the digital version…
i want to download my games!
not go to gamestop for them!

You read my mind.
