Digital copy for physical game info update?

So the last (and only?) announcement of the availability to exchange the digital code for Halo 5 for a physical copy was on 7/17/2015; its now 19 days and counting, can we get an update?

Also, some of us have pre-ordered the Xbox One 1TB Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Bundle as well as the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector’s Edition; will we be able to exchange the code from the Xbox One bundle for a physical game disc as well?

I’m still at a loss as to who thought to provide a Steelbook case with these but no physical game to go with it, but that’s another discussion for another day.

So you can have something nice to put on your shelf. And the benefit is you don’t have to open it and walk all the way up to your Xbox to insert the disk. You can just look at it and admire its beauty.

Well, there goes my exercise for the day!

Thanks for that; would still like to see someone address the console bundle though, haven’t seen that mentioned at all and I don’t want to assume they mean we can exchange any digital copy…

I have done some sort of research and I came up with this

Gamestops exchange policy says they don’t do digital software exchanges so unless Microsoft/343 can convince GameStop to go against their on exchange policy don’t expect to be able to just walk into GameStop and do an exchange.
I suspect there will be a website that will be announced soon that you can visit to redeem your digital code for a pysical copy, fill out shipping information and it will then be sent to your home if this is the case depending how fast they process and ship depends if you will be playing October 27th
If your really wanting a physical copy your better off purchasing a physical copy and avoid any hoop hopping 343/Microsoft may have in store for those wanting to exchange digital for a physical copy.

I was going to post the same question myself. Seems like they are going to wait until the last minute to detail it. If I have to guess they are going to make it difficult for you to exchange it. Most likely by mail. Either you mail in the unused code and receive the disc back in the mail. Or a website you enter in the unused code and still have to wait for the mail to delivery it. MAYBE you might get lucky and you might get a coupon after redeeming the code that will redeemable at Best Buy, Walmart or Gamestop. Never know.

I personally am just going to download it and wait for a super cheap copy to be sold later.

Nothing short of pathetic… I mean I really am exited for this game but the marketing/operations team royally screwed this part up…

Yep. I still think Collector Edition buyers should get early access for lack of a physical disc. It only seems fair to me.

It just seems that they are just cutting a cost, they must make more money out of the LCE than any other item … Just annoys me lol

i know it’s got a giant statue in it but c’mon lol

LOL it’s not like they didn’t tell you ahead of time.

It’s true they did, and as a result I downgraded my pre-order …

I’ve answered this question multiple times

Retailers will not be offering code to disc transfers on the console/LCE and here is why
Both the console and LCE editions of halo 5 release Oct 20th, a week before the game itself launches.
This is to allow players to pre0install the game, however the game will not be available to play until the 27th of October.

Retailers will not exchange codes for discs on the 20th because doing so would be breaking street date which carries a hefty fine in the industry.
If retailers were to exchange codes for disc on release date, players would be able to play the campaign a week early.
Retailers will also not be offering exchanges on codes for discs after the 20th because after the 20th, there is no way to confirm if the code has been used or not
And all retailers such as EB games (whom I work for) and gamestop have a no refund policy on DLC items

I’m pretty sure the only way to do this will be through the Microsoft store, which means you would have had to pre-order from the Microsoft store which also means you won’t get a code on the 20th, rather just receive a disk on the 27th

Hope this makes sense

Also, EB games here in Australia will be offering a physical disc for LCE buyers at no additional charge and as a result the LCE release date has been pushed back from Oct 20th to Oct 27th

Can you guys explain something to me regarding this issue? I promise I’m not trying to start an argument, I just honestly don’t understand

As far as I am aware, I can only think of 3 reasons why a person would prefer a disc to digital.
Reason 1 - You don’t have an internet connection to download the game
Reason 2 - You prefer to have the physical copy in your hand for the sake of collection
Reason 3 - You prefer to have the physical copy in your hand for the sake of being able to return it if you don’t like it.

With Reason 1, I think its perfectly understandable how this Digital to Disc exchange is a good thing for you, I’d say there are a couple caveats that really depend on the method of exchange though so I’ll let it go…

However, with the other two reasons, I don’t understand why people were SO UPSET about the situation. I mean if you prefer the disc, sure I get that, I can understand being bummed and slightly miffed, but there were cases of hatred-induced war-starting rage that just seemed so disproportionate to the news that seemed like not that big of a deal. As far as being able to take the game back if you didn’t like it… I guess I don’t understand why someone would pay $250 bucks for a game they weren’t positive they were going to keep.

Can anybody offer some rationale explanations specifically based on my observations? I mean if you had other reasons for preferring disc, feel free to share those as well. Thanks for any answers I get.

I prefer disc because its something tangible.
It has an intrinsic value to is because its physical material
If I decide one day I don’t want to play H5 anymore I can trade it in at EB or sell it and recoup some of the value I paid for it where as digital I can not

I think that is perfectly reasonable and all that, but if that is really the reason, why wouldn’t you just buy a lower edition that already includes the disc? Are the limited edition extras worth the extra cost?

Digital discounts and rebates make up for that though. So although you can’t trade it in, you get instant reimbursement for your purchases. I think most people don’t know about that though.

For myself, I believe they are
I’m a collector of things.
I’ve got the H3 legendary MC bust, I’ve got the H:R statue, and I’ve got some 30 odd Mcfarlane/Neca Halo figures as well

meh fair enough. I just know for me, I have a certain few games that I will never, no matter what, resell, so those games being only digital don’t bother me at all. But it would have to be the type of game that I know I would never get rid of for me to want to spend that kind of money on it in the first place.

Just because I may eventually tire of H5 doesn’t mean I will tire of the statue or other physical items that come with it.
In the end its a personal thing.
I mean worst case scenario if I do sell H5 and want to play it again I can rebuy a standard copy pre-owned and still have all the physical items from the LCE
