Difficulty level

Hi guys,

In past Halos we had a perfect difficulty level: elites and grunts… all they were satisfactory to kill.
Since Halo 4 and especially Halo 5 the Covenant enemies are very weak.

Grunts die very fast (only 3 or 4 bullets for Assault Rifle, for example). Elites are not aggresive and their shields drop very fast.

On Reach Elites were very aggressive and it was very satisfying to fight. I don´t see this behavior on H4 or H5
(Example:)

Do you think that in Infinite the enemies will be more difficult to kill?

Dark souls Difficulty Activate.

It is not necessarry a Dark Souls difficulty, but why get down the difficulty while giving more help in the gameplay instead of going further?

343 has a long tradition of breaking things instead of going further with them.

Halo needs to be more accessible they said or it will not appeal to the masses, I don’t know if they changed their mind with Infinite but I doubt it.

Ultimately I think it comes down to the AI through the games and how they interact with the player during combat.

This 1000% Bullet sponge enemies are no fun.

Personally, i’d like to see difficulty scale with enemy actions, not just by tweaking damage, heath, and shield stats. For example, at higher difficulty, elites could take cover when their shields are low or are more likely to charge when a player’s shields are low, and on easy they just stand there and move around a little bit. Of course, some things can be handled with skulls.

I think the problem with Halos 4 and 5 is the weapons were designed to be more effective, due to higher spartan mobility in multiplayer. That goes for the player’s weapons and the enemy’s weapons. Thus, if you increased the time-to-kill of enemies, then they’d have too much time to react and land a lot more shots on the player. Basically, if the player can’t play as an assassin, then they’ll get slapped by a barrage of laser-like and lock-on weaponry. They could’ve found a better balance, probably, but it’s a fundamental challenge with the game’s mechanics.

My preference: lower the mobility some, bring back weapons you can dodge at range, lower the overall weapon range (make melee great again), and then you can tweak the enemy AI damage, health, and shields. After the game is fun on normal difficulty, add AI features that get enabled at higher difficulty to outplay the player (and make them do funny/dumb things to make easy mode easier).

In Halo 5, they made the enemies a little more lethal due to the extensive emphasis on working in teams. We have no word on if that’s being carried over in Halo Infinite (although I have my doubts, but I’d like to see it return). I liked how the enemies operated in Halo 5, their reactions felt slightly more realistic in combat.

We might be getting a new faction of Created and also The Banished. Not sure how the first will fight but you can bet that Banished will be aggressive and cunning.

Halo 2: About time somebody called me.

Somewhere at about Halo 3 or 2 levels of campaign difficulty is about the sweet spot for me. Provided we don’t get anything as cheap as seemingly infinitely respawning Jackal Snipers.

Like, I want to be crushed, right, but there is an upper limit that Halo 2’s Jackal Sniper spam hit where it ceases to actually be fun by any degree.

Journalists start complaining about it being too hard

Depends what difficulty you’re talking about. I find that covenant enemies are typically the same throughout the series other than the god awful ghost melees that elites can do since reach. Prometheans on the other hand are extremely frustrating on legendary and Knights feel almost invincible in Halo 4 due to all the teleporting.

That’s how you know a game is fun.

I think that the composition of an enemy group is another difficulty factor to consider. We very well may see Elites and Brutes in the same squads, which I think will make for more interesting and likely more difficult gameplay.

Yeah they were to easy to kill and the promethean were hard to kill and boring to kill
