If you’re like me, you can’t stand the fact that there are only two types of packs: Gold and Silver (you know exactly why Bronze doesn’t count). They both cost quite a few REQ Points, and only give you 2 permanent unlocks out of the 1000+ items. Those 2 permanent unlocks could be anything from emblems, to visors, to armor suits, to helmets, to loadout weapons, to power weapon certifications, to vehicle certifications, to assassinations, to stances, to weapon skins (please let me know if I missed anything, there’s so much stuff it’s hard to keep track of it all).
Quite frankly, it’s a grind, and you’re not guaranteed to get anything even remotely close to what you want. As a full time student who works in the theatre and also has a job, I’m lucky if I can sit down and play Halo long enough to unlock a few silver packs. I would like to play with the cool toys, but the RNG system is set up so that you basically have to grind your through all the commons, uncommons, and rates before you even start to get to the good stuff. So I think there should be different types of REQ Packs. Those types would look something like this:
- Vehicle REQ Pack - for 1 or 2 guaranteed vehicle certifications of any rarity and some number of “refill” cards to refresh your supply of vehicles for which you already have the certifications - Weapon REQ Pack - for 1 or 2 guaranteed weapon certifications OR loadout weapons of any rarity and some number of “refill” cards to refresh your supply of weapons for which you already have the certifications - Customization REQ Pack - for some number of emblems, assassinations, visors, stances, weapon skins, armor suits, or helmets of any rarityNot to mention that with their monthly updates, 343 has been dropping in loads of new REQs (mostly commons and commons, naturally) which only sets those of us who haven’t gotten to the good stuff yet back even further. As much as I love this game (and I really do), I feel like I’m getting shafted by RNG every time I open a pack (I recently took a clip of me opening two silver packs and getting all scout warthogs and mongooses out of both of them), which kind of limits the fun I can have in a match when I only have basic stuff to play around with, unless I can manage to steal something off someone’s corpse.
A question with considering is this: is there really any harm in giving people a small degree of choice over what types of items they unlock when they spend their hard-earned REQ Points on a pack?
