Different types of ammo for the Assault Rifle?

Alright before you tell me that it’s a really stupid idea, just hear me out. If you’ve ever read the Halo book series you might remember that it sometimes mentions different ammunition types, such as shredder ammo, being used in the assault rifle, yet this is never implemented in the games. I was just thinking that they could add multiple types of ammo for the Assault Rifle, such as standard FMJ-AP (or whatever its called), shredder, and then explosive or something like that, and you would be able to switch between which one you wanted to use. Each type of ammo would carry a separate ammo count and you’d have to switch clips in order to switch between the different types. Obviously for balance purposes these would only be in campaign but maybe in multiplayer they could add the MA5B (Assault rifle from Halo:CE) firing explosive rounds as a legendary weapon in multiplayer. But yeah, I think that it’s a cool idea but if you feel that it’s a horribly stupid idea that would ruin Halo, feel free to let me know.

I saw a similar idea a few years ago, only it was smokeless rounds for the sniper. We are a little strapped for buttons at the moment though, so it might just have to be a one-mag buff.

Great ideas. This should definitely be in firefight or Spartan ops if they return. There should be a ‘store’ at the end of each round where you buy ammo or guns.

Woah…

I think I have seen this idea (or similar ideas) in many threads before. Forcing the player to change ammo types in the middle of a battle would be very tedious, especially when there’s already a game mechanic that does that. It’s called swapping weapons.

One thing that would happen is the player would to swap the weapon they want, only to find out that they’re using the wrong ammo type. Then they would have to “swap weapons” again but with a different animation that would take longer than the actual weapon swap animation. Or, you could speed the animation up but it would look unpolished. Or, you could simplify it so that the player doesn’t actually need to have/find different types of ammunition to fire different types of bullets.

In that case, do you really want the player to push a button that will make their Assault Rifle stronger against vehicles, but weaker against everything else? What if you’re shooting at Ghost and an Elite gets between you and the Ghost? Now the player is forced to choose between avoiding the Elite, swapping to an ammo type that will kill them, or wasting ammo. That’s the situation that would happen, but with every single battle in the entire game. All this does is give the player one more very tedious set of variables to keep track of.

“But what if the player can only find different ammo types in the level?” At that point, the best option is adding a completely new weapon to the game. That way the player knows exactly what kind of weapon they’re picking up. If the ammo type(s) you’re thinking of aren’t unique enough to warrant a new weapon, they won’t be unique enough to warrant development time. You’re also getting the most return for the effort you would be putting in, since new weapons can be shown in trailers and promotional material as well.

On the surface it seems like a simple idea that could improve the game… but it would only add pointless complexity.

Idk about that one multiplayer wise. I personally don’t want reqs in halo 6 but that’s another topic for another day. Though I don’t play warzone so if it was added it really wouldn’t effect me. I would lie if I said I wasn’t a little curious campaign wise.

Please don’t revive old topics thanks, especially ones that are over three years old
