I’ve realized that one of the DEFINITELY good things that Reach cannot compare with previous Halo’s are the maps.
Sure, Reach had the best graphics.
But the maps were all either grey and green and brown, or they were bad.
I think that they should change the style of maps back to previous Halo’s, but with that science fiction feel thanks to graphics. I think that on every map, there should be at least 1 ‘interactive’ thing you can do (Last Resort, anyone?) which can alter gameplay. Last Resort had a shield which prevented vehicles from entering the bomb plant site.
And the maps need to be smaller. Halo was about Shooting, Grenades, and Melee. If big maps like Hemorrhage, this rarely happens. In smaller maps like Pinnacle, its still a bit too big for it. Grenades are randomly thrown, and melee’s happen in noob double pnches.
I think in Halo 4 I will be admiring the skybox more than actually killing people in matchmaking, the maps look amazing!
OT: I do like that they are making maps from scratch and not anything from campaign.
I do hope they make a variant of Zealot, I always loved Covie buildings
the problem with the maps in reach was that they were all forgeworld or ripped from the campaign. From what ive heard so far they are making mp maps from scratch and are going to have multiple themes.
as for maps in reach being to big well there was a fair amount of big maps in the previous games as well

i agree wraparound is awesome
Halo Reach has the worst maps in the series. Hands down. I’m hoping Halo 4 will introduce something new and awesome.

Yea it was bad, but 343 did prove to make some visually stunning DLC maps (Defiant and Anniversary)

Too bad previous games had good movement speed and good vehicles, so big maps could be crossed in a timely fashion. In Reach, it takes about 30 seconds to find a battle when playing BTB, while in H3 it takes maybe 10 off the spawn.
Anyways, Reach had awful maps. Forge World maps were good for the most part - I’m talking MLG variants, not those random maps in Team Slayer - but the frame rate drop ruined any form of splitscreen play. Also, the color pallet got old really quickly.
Also, the maps simply weren’t good. Swordbase was awful, Spire and Boneyard, along with Breakpoint, were never used, and the only good maps cost extra money.
Go back to H3 style maps, with good colors, strong forge pallets in each map, and strategic planning for pathways and weapon placements.
