Let me start off by saying this is NOT a post asking for a visible rank in Halo 4.
A common problem frequently mentioned is that the game is struggling to match players with others of equal skill (at least pre-CSR, I haven’t played enough post to judge). What if, the behind the scene ranking system really is no different in its effectiveness than the one in say Halo 3. The difference could be the fact that players can’t see their rank. When ranks were visible, everyone generally tried their best to win in a given playlist. The ranks therefore reflected the ability of most players when they are putting forth nearly the same amount of effort. The effort being put forth by players was more of a constant as you leveled up rather than a variable. Everyone wanted to win every game.
Now Halo 4 comes around (and u can throw in Reach) and there are no visible ranks. Not everyone tries as hard to win because there are no ranks. Some players just go for a high K/D ratio but lose since there is no impact on a visible rank (mainly in OBJ games). Others may be trying their hardest and winning as much as possible promoting their “true skill”. But at the same time, other people may be playing hard at times, but more laid back at other times. With so many variables just on the effort being put forth alone, and with different goals for different players, (there are probably other variables as well), it must be even more difficult for the system to identify a player’s “true skill” and match them accordingly. What do you guys think of this? Maybe this isn’t a huge problem, but I think it is something to look back on and consider.
