Halo 5’s mechanics arr constantly being compared to mechanics in Call of Duty. Here is why Halo 5’s mechanics are different from Call of Duty’s:
Smart Link/Smart Scope- This is just an zoom in animation for all weapons. That’s all. Unlike ADS, smart scoping does not make the weapon more accurate by tightening the spread(with the exception of a few weapons).
Sprint- 343 has their own style of sprint by tying it to the Spartan’s shield recharge, and ultimately, a Spartan’s life. Since this applies to everyone, it forces players to plan accordingly in order to get the kill or avoid death.
I can’t speak for the mechanics as I haven’t played COD since black ops 2 or something… but the real difference at least it mean is you really have to earn your kills in Halo. Accuracy matters most. COD you don’t have to have much precision to get kills. Head shots matter in Halo. It has more challenge to it. Also Halo has a better variety of weapons which… those two factors and the much deeper and diverse story line not to mention all the outside stuff beyond the game itself makes Halo just the best series IMO.
skill vs no skill
That’s the biggest difference. In Halo 5 you need to know what you’re doing. In CoD, just spam that one gun you got at level 137 after prestiging for the eight time
Personally, the difference between Halo and COD for me has always been the vehicles, the awesome customization, the EARNING of all your armor and the rich story with true replay ability. The creativity of forge, and the fun of split screen with friends. Unfortunately, Halo 5 kind of has me taken aback, with the wacky story, the weird REQ system and the fact that you no longer truly earn your armor anymore. My friends and I spent hours in Halo 3 trying to find all the skulls so we could get that Hayabusa armor. Now, I don’t earn myself my armor, I stick in my super slow to earn points into a number generator and hopefully get lucky. The state of Halo is ghastly, and Black Ops 3 was just as ghastly.
In Call of Duty, you have near-absolute zero chances if you were spotted first. 5 bullets from most autos take you down.
At least in Halo 5, the right gun in the right position in the right hands conquers.
People who call Halo CoD and get a bunch of likes in youtube comments and on facebook are literally just doing it for the likes and have probably not played the game or own an Xbox One (Ps4 fanboys) - probably a few salty halo vets in there as well, angry that they didn’t remake h2, again.
Halo is legit none thing like cod even advanced Warfare was like Halo 5 but is not at all like cod. Even Rainbow Six Siege is better then Cod since both Siege and Halo require skill while Cod is who shoots first.
Call of Duty is basically a who sees who first game.
There is one prominent difference which will always remain. That is TTK [ Time To Kill ].

you are actually WRONG about smart scoping, it does make your wepons more accurate as it adds bullet magnetization, and it also adds range, what it doesn’t do, is slow you down when you walk. (you are aware of this?, yet you still say it doesn’t happen?)
sprint works the same in literally EVERY GAME lolol. the difference is only because you have a shield in halo, that doesn’t recharge, take away the shield you have sprint in every other game. (in halo 4 your shield did recharge)
halo is far closer to call of duty then you would like to believe OP. it isn’t halo 4 levels of close, but it is closer
the older halo’s not so much, but halo 5 is.
my friend who is solely a call of duty player. who has never played a halo game,
played a few with me, and the first thing he said on his very first game was " this feels just like call of duty, fast and frantic" and proceeded to hold his own fairly well.

I’m not sure whether it increases accuracy or range, but if it did, the difference is so slight it’s not even noticeable. Also it doesn’t increase bullet magnetism. For Halo 5’s sprint, you have to reach max speed, your shields don’t recharge, and if you aren’t at max speed and you get shot, you are taken out of sprint.
Halo 5 is VERY different from CoD. Also I’m sure your friend just absolutely REQ’d his first game (sarcasm).

This is pretty shallow minded if you ask me. The question of skill vs no skill is absurd, as everything in life takes skill to be better than the average person at… that’s pretty much the definition of having skill. The difference in these two games as it pertains to skill is as follows in my opinion:
Halo 5: Because there are no load-outs, a huge part of this game is navigating the map in a way to A) not be put in bad situations (2v1 or more) and B) equip yourself with the best guns on the map. Now this isn’t a necessity, as someone with a lot of skill with precision weapons such as the pistol can be pretty effective against anything (although not as much as the original trilogy, where there was less “gun balance”). But there is definitely an emphasis put on skill with aiming in this game, especially when compared with CoD, no doubt about it.
Halo 5 rewards: Equipping yourself with the best weapons and using these weapons in their correct niche, map control, precision aiming.
CoD: The level of customization available in CoD is a big difference than Halo. Players are able to select whatever weapon they want, put whatever attachments they want, as well as whatever perks they want. This is part is crucial to equip yourself with whatever load-out that bests suits your play style. If you don’t, you’re one step behind before you even start playing. Now the main difference in game play (because of the much lower TTK in CoD) is controlling lines of sight, learning and adapting to your opponents (because their behavior is more dependent on their play-style whereas in Halo behavior is largely dependent on map and map weapon locations), and being able to predict the spawn logic. Because the maps are so small, and its 6v6 in CoD, spawns can get pretty random if your team is too spread out on the map, however if you have a good sense of where the spawn logic will be sending your opponents, and always keep them in front of you, you will be much better off. This is no doubt a skill that not all players have. Also, because of the low TTK, it’s my opinion you have to be much more aware of lines of sight in CoD than in Halo, not that’s its not important in both.
CoD rewards: Equipping yourself with the best load-out to suit your play-style, controlling lines of sight, controlling/predicting spawn logic.

How do you even get bullet magnetism on forerunner weapons such as suppressor and boltshot. Smartnlink in Halo 5 is a unique feature and the only true ‘Aim Down Sight’ is the brute plasma rifle. Recon sight doesn’t count as it still uses some form of projection sight.
The sprint is Halo 5 is 'Thruster Sprint" and is completely unique as you use the thrusters to help you sprint and that’s why it has the animation on your back and takes up the Mjolnir gen 2 suits energy that is normally required to perform shield recharge.
OP, you’re wrong about ADS in Halo 5. Though I can see why you would be misinformed since 343 flat out lied about it. ADS in Halo 5 does in fact tighten the spread on just about every weapon, if not every weapon.

Its a Halo forum, I wouldn’t expect any less if it was a CoD forum and said the opposite… it would just have more saying Halo takes less skill play then CoD. Now would that make it true?
Halo didn’t have any of these things in any of the games. Cod and battlefield have been doing them forever. It’s not so much as the fact that “there are no sights bro, it’s a hologram.” It’s the fact that if I press the left trigger on the default controls it puts me into a long range sight.
The default controls for Halo 5 are literally call of duty controls, it doesn’t even resemble Halo 4, at least halo 4 had the decency to keep the original control scheme. Sprint was introduced as well as aim-down holographic crap to appeal to the larger and more successful cod fan base.
You can deny it, and that’s fine but that’s where it’s coming from. It doesn’t matter if sprint is different, it’s still sprint. Removing the physical image of iron sights doesn’t make smart scoop not ads.

It’s like comparing basketball and soccer. Does either take more skill? That’s completely subjective, as you have highlighted, bias will play into that answer depending on who you ask. My answer, trying to step outside the parameters of bias-based opinions, is that each game requires different skill, rather than one requiring more than the other.
And yes, I would probably expect to see that on a CoD forum (as humans are malleable to the effects of bias, even if it seems they have the mental capacity to abstain that bias) although I would provide the same rebuttal to that person as well.

Here are the problems with your smart scope counter arguement:
You say that adds range. That is what it is supposed to do, increase your weapon’s effective range by zooming in. In previous Halos, if you zoomed in with a BR or any other precision weapon, the range increases. In Halo 5, now all weapons have that ability.
Second, “Bullet magenetism” is just an illusion created by your brain caused by the weapon’s zoomed in state and Halo 5’s hitscan mechanic.
The reason why sprint works the same in every game is because there is no other way to portray sprint. For humans, if you are on your feet, and want to move faster, you start moving your legs faster than if you were just walking.
Sprint works well with FPS games because of the concept of fight or flight. In Halo, if your Spartan’s life is in danger, you either engage the aggressor, or if you feel that engaginger is not the best option, then run away.
HALO is different from Call of Duty…
one is a one word title and the other has 3 words in the title.
