So, I heard that Steve Downes—Voice of the Master Chief—retired. Are they replacing him in Halo: Infinite, or is he still willing to continue his most iconic role? I really hope they don’t replace him. I think most people would agree with me when I say that Downes is the only person who can ever be Chief.
Nope just from one of my favorite radio station. He even tweeted that he considers voice acting to be fun and only retired from radio.
I like downs, and even if he didnt retire, he will soon becuase he’s getting close to it. So im also curious whats gona happen. At least he’s a man of few words “master chief” so a new voice might not be too hard to change. They might also be a ble to reuse dialog from other games in the series.
I could be wrong but didnt he retire just from being radio DJ? I would hope that if Halo Infinite will be the last Halo with Master Chief as the main character as in finishing the fight, again. That he would be there to finish the Chiefs storyline.
And im not saying that Infinite for sure will be the last Halo with Chief as protagonist but I just have that feeling that there is an attempt to bring a new protagonist to Halos main line like with Thorne & Locke.
Hopefully if there will be a new main character then they will be better than Locke atleast. Or maybe have different protagonists for different games that continue the story to give some perspectives.

Infinite really does feel like—from what we’ve seen and what 343 has said—the end of something. Whether it’s the end of Chief’s story, the end of the Halo rings, idk. But Infinite feels like the climax of the story.

Maybe it could be the end of the main storyline. So we perhaps could finally have a true finale for Halo.
That wouldnt be the end of Halo as a brand. Maybe there could be spin-offs set on different time periods with known species and enemies or maybe 343i could even try out making a game set on time before the activation of the Halo array. That would be something that could allow more artistic freedom.
Other that could allow for more artistic freedom would be maybe a game set on further on the future with different characters and setting but one with known species and enemies though technology could be more advanced, by how much would depend on how far into the future the game would be set on. Either similar or even more alien than usual.
So many potential future directions for Halo. Even when Downes will truly stop voice acting & if the Chief will truly no longer be the protagonist in future installments.
But one thing is that when Downes retires, i just hope the Chief will get a finale if there havent been one before that. I really wouldnt like to see something like with HW2 Johnson.

I think this is gonna be the last traditional Halo release. I think from now on, all future Halo content, Campaigns and multiplayer, will release on Halo Infinite. I think this will be a big change for the series.

It will definitely not be the end of the brand. Maybe the mainline games, but not the franchise and not the brand.

That is a very interesting theory. There has yet to be a Halo game with a story DLC, so even if they don’t do that, maybe we’ll get story DLC for Halo Infinite.

He retired from his Radio show - a lot of people misinterpreted and thought he was also retiring from voice acting but that’s not the case. Steve is still chief. You can be 100% certain that when he gives up his helmet, there’s going to be a huge announcement and big party
