Not sure if this was posted about before, but I don’t see the experiment to acquire flood immunity that results in the ur-Didact’s “new form” (as seen in the halo 4 terminal) being referenced or explained anywhere in Silentium. The closest thing was the Librarian noting that his eyes were sunken.
Any explanation for this yet?
The “new form” wasn’t a result of self-experimentation, like many people assumed from the terminals. It was a result of his capture by the Gravemind - it messed with him physically as well as mentally.

It wasn’t in the book because it had been shown in the Halo 4 terminals. Remember the Master Builder’s testimony? He talks about how the Didact had wanted to go immediately to Requiem after being rescued. During this time he is experimenting on himself, and later makes the Promethean Knights. Then, the book jumps to the two Didacts and the Librarian meeting up, and later the Composition of the Humans on Omega Halo.
Hope that helps!

But didn’t the Gravemind alter his genetics somehow too? The Didact describes a physically painful experience involving DNA or something during his testimony

I am not soo sure about that because the librarian didn’t like the way he looked afterwards. the only mention i found was him wearing new combat armor but nothing about the change of his voice or form.
The Didact spoke of a deeply buried genetic imprint that the Gravemind dug up.

He’s not insane really right, he’s just obsessed with the idea that the Mantle is for the Forerunners alone?
He isn’t insane but more aware of the threat the flood posses than anybody else. He is always aware of the crimes the forerunners did to the precursors.
All of this really stems down to the loss of his children at the hands of the humans, who were in turn true holders of the mantle.
Thanks for the responses guys!

Its definitely not that since he directly said “the procedure is a failure, I am still susceptible to flood infection”
Unfortunate that its still unclear, but I guess him doing it while he was on requiem is the best guess atm
Though for whatever reason, while reading the book, it didn’t seem like the period of time that he was there was that long.
At least not long enough to experiment and then make the composed prometheans and then test them out and such
