Did you think Halo 5 was the darkest?

Remember when 343 said that Halo 5’s campaign would supposedly be the darkest Halo campaign yet?

Did you think that it turned out to be true?

Personally, no, I didn’t find it to be dark, unless they meant the campaign literally would be dark, seeing as to how Cortana and the Created are pretty much turning out all the lights at the end.

I think the fact that this is the first mainline title to be rated T should be enough to show this wasn’t the darkest Halo game.

I fully believe that title belongs to Reach what with the civilian bodies everywhere and it being a story where you are destined to fail.

While I agree that Halo 5 is anything but dark, being rated T means nothing. There are games that have been rated T and have been darker than any Halo.

Yeah, I have to say, I don’t think the rating has anything to do with the story.

There’s a story in halo 5.

Halo 5 is about as dark as the care bears.

I agree that the rating system doesn’t necessarily have to dictate how dark a story can be. Although it’s fair to say that a T rated game couldn’t show much blood/gore/dismemberment, obviously, hence a story that was intended to be dark from that angle would suffer.

The only reason I think anyone could even call H5’s story “dark” not even saying dark-est… is the fact that a former ally is now the antagonist. Which came across (to me) as little more than a “Seriously!? WTF!?” moment than a dark one. Have to agree, Reach wins for darkest.

LMAO!
oh a side quest in the witcher is darker than all of h5

The only way I see Halo 5’s campaign as dark is the fact that the Created was basically just turning off all of the lights in the galaxy towards the end.

Yeah but “The Care Bears Go To 'Nam” was pretty dark.

It wasn’t dark at all. It was a lot of things, but it wasn’t dark.

I think the original Halo 5 (How the story was supposed to be before everything got cut and changed) was supposed to be dark. Chief having gone crazy after losing Cortana and just being broken down mentally, doesn’t care what he has to do to get her back. Locke also seeming like a more violent/agressive hunter in the ads rather than he is now.

It had infinity less faces being digitally melted than Halo 4 did… for what that’s worth…

Silly, just turn up the gamma on your TV.

Halo 6: Gamma Evolved…

But that’ll mess with everything else I do on my TV.

I guess. The composing scene was cool though.

That’s probably true. Too bad whatever the ads showed didn’t actually happen.

Haven’t played much outside of the Halo franchise, so I’ll take your word for that. Kinda sad if that’s the case.

If it wasn’t dark, what was it?
Not trying to disagree, just wanted to know what you thought.

I suppose that’s an accurate enough comparison.

I think basically every halo prior was darker in terms of themes and content than Halo 5
Halo Ce: The reveal of the flood and jacob keyes death
Halo 2: The betrayal/great schism, slaughter of the councilors,
Halo 3: Johnson dies, miranda dies, cortana is tortured, flood are shown gruesomly infecting allies on screen
Halo Reach: No explanation required
Halo 4: Cortana’s deterioration and death, on-screen composition of science team
Halo 5: Some people you don’t even know die offscreen? Cortana wants to rule the galaxy to bring peace? Yea no

It’s kinda funny since some of the concept art in the achievements paint a much darker game.

They seemed to have ditched all that very early on. Looking at the concept art, it looks like they actually did go for something dark and gritty, but then the final game is all bright and cartoony.

All that false advertising…
