Did you prefer Halo 5's weapon sandbox or Infinite's?

Take out the thrusters, has it was more as a character kit. I am talking about the massive pool Halo 5 had to offer vs what we have no. Halo 5’s current, old and new weapons, along with variations or attachments if you played Warzone. Every weapon in the game was viable to almost every situation.

Halo Infinite has a drastically smaller pool with many old weapons cut out, they also rotate spots within multiplayer maps, and each weapon now has become more of a situational purpose instead of a jack of all trades this time around.

Both games with their pros and cons of balance and fun, but which did you prefer?

  • Halo 5
  • Halo Infinite

Infinite’s in regards to balance.

H5 is regards to variety.

But keep in mind I didn’t play Warzone. But I did play a lot of Super Fiesta.

I think we’ll see regular additions to the main sandbox from Season 3 onwards. Starting with the new DMR variation.

But Forge will have a heap of options. Plus weapon forging. So it won’t want for much.

In hopes for returning weapons. Though besides Warzone, the general sandbox was still vast as well. Having both increasing UNSC and Covenant and Promethean weapons.

… halo 5’s. Is this even a controversial question? Can we get a poll going? I thought it was agreed on by most people that halo 5 sandbox was near perfect; it was the predatory pay to win mechanics and condescension from 343 that were disliked.

I hate halo 5. That’s my answer

Playing ranked only in both games, I have to say yes. The Magnum was a great starting weapon but I still picked up the drm and BR everytime. The snipe was probably to easy to use BUT that’s why people fought for it. Infinites snipe barely gets picked up, at least in mid/high diamond matches.

edit: i totally forgot about the carbine… man am I missing this gun. Light rifle was a great alternative as well. We got 6 precision weapons which all felt different but did the job as good as each of them. Thinking about it, I really miss the sandbox…

Infinite, the BR feels like a laser and is barely as rewarding as in H5. I miss stuff like the SAW or a working Hydra…

I preferred halo 5 tbh.

I dunno, it feels like there’s no finesse to infinites weapons. When I play, I feel like there’s something missing in the sandbox right around the commando/hydra area and I can’t put my finger on it. The convenient weapons are garbage, forerunner weapons are pretty spot on, although I think I woulda liked to have seen a forerunner pistol instead of the shock pistol.
Another forerunner below the Sentinel beam would be a nice entry.
The banished weapons give me grief. They don’t fit. The shock rifle is literally the lightening gun from unreal tournament. If those two shock weapons were replaced with a more brutey feel weapon, I’d be aboard.

But yeah, halo 5’s variety truely had a weapon for every scenario, so if you had someone holed up, the the spanker ex RL was a god send. Infinites RL rockets disappear into another dimension.

Infinite all the way. Really don’t care much for Halo 5s sandbox at all. 90% of the “variety” are just reskins of the weapons with negligible differences. Many weapons also have no use case as why ever use the AR when it loses to all precision weapons and close range weapons like the SMG. Many Halo 5 guns were actually worthless and i don’t feel that is the case for Infinite.

Also the precision utility weapon design is still present in Halo 5 and it actively cuts against the 2 weapons system as giving you a weapon that is always viable means you really don’t have to think about what you take into combat as long as you have that utility weapon.

Infinite was the first Halo to follow through on the design philosophy CE and Halo 2 (at launch) attempted but where both of their sandboxes failed Infinite’s succeeded.

Honestly my only problem with Infinite is the FTP model and how there isn’t a single armor that actually takes skill to earn. Its all just a time grind or paid for which ruins customization but that is a topic for another thread.

Neither arw my favourite sandbox but there were standouts in both and arguably 5 had the best AR in the franchise it just want much use due to the pistol

I think over all infinite but the caster is missed and the splinter nades were visually awsome if entirely op.

@Saint_Budden
I think thats more the framework for the shooting than the guns themselves.

No. Halo 5 has the most bland, samey sandbox.

Why would I prefer a sandbox where every weapon is basically the same tool and lacks identity?

The question answers itself.

The weapon sandbox was enormous in Halo 5. I still really don’t understand why Infinite had so many weapons scrapped or shelved for later addition. The more I think about Infinite the more I scratch my head and wonder “what in the world is going on?”

But this new game delivery style of Free To Play (FTP) has really altered what is expected. 343i has admitted fault for failure to deliver on content delivery and I’m not sure how this free battle pass will cover their mistakes. I’m super hopeful that 343i can begin to truly deliver new content on a seasonal basis, but I’m not holding my breathe.

I enjoy Infinite much more than Halo 5 in the sense of gameplay. Take out desync and the game is a 9.5/10 for me. Playing with friends and family is super fun and enjoyable. We need more game modes and a freaking ranked Team Slayer playlist. That has been in Halo since Halo 2.

5 definitely had a better sandbox unfortunately i feel like 5s slayer maps didn’t accentuate them too much, one thing infinite did good was changing weapon spawn in maps, maybe the only thing they did good. if 5 gets ported to pc and an xs upgrade i hope they add that feature, also a map voter. another thing, just a nitpick, but i dont like the weapon wall dispensers in infinite, they seem weird.

Personally, I preferred Halo 5’s weapon sandbox. The weapons in Halo Infinite are fine, don’t get me wrong, but Halo 5’s sandbox had me covered with just about any gun I could want to shoot. It felt complete, like I wasn’t really missing anything, and that new fun weapon variants weren’t some critically missing pieces.

Halo 5’s sandbox. Easily! Is that even a question? There’s so many weapons that in every situation, there is always at least one weapon suitable for that situation. Super Fiesta especially put Halo 5’s weapon sandbox into full force (not counting support weapons like the ONI Gauss Turret), and that kept me hooked for years.

Infinite’s easily. No questions asked lmao.

Outside of filling the basic boxes of short range, long range, explosive, melee, ect - Halo 5’s sandbox is pitifully shallow in its diversity.

It bewilders me that fans of Halo 5 can say “all the guns do the same thing! so good!”

Comparing Halo 5s guns to Infinites is the same as comparing their armour.

Quality over quantity.

Obviously Infinite has greater flaws (plasma pistol, cat ears) but it’s general approach to both is vastly superior to H5.

Totally agree with the last paragraph Rip_Lazy…if you take away desync and some other more minor issues, Infinite for me is damn near perfect. Easily my favorite Halo since H2. But…then comes along the desync gremlin, devouring any chance of my enjoyment with this game and scaring off all my friends in the process. Thanks desync gremlin….wish 343 had listened and didn’t feed it after midnight.

You said you preferred Halo 5 does that mean you think it was better than Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3

The desync gremlin is a new one, but I absolutely love it. Many of my friends have all but given up on the game. Infinite and other new games are just too much if you ask me. Like the games are being overly created and not just sticking to simplistic game play and engine.

Playing the first month of Infinite on my PC was an absolute nightmare with how often my game would crash and then to make matters worse, I would get a match making ban from it. sad face
