Yes! The returning covenant are fun to fight and the new prometheans are a serious test of your skills. It was fairly hard on heroic but the revive mechanic encouraged me to still try to do cool things in fights. (revive has a few issues that i’d like to be fixed in future games but overall i think it’s smart to have a system like that in there.)
The story was a big surprise to me. I like that they didn’t spoil any of it with the marketing, really, but all of that still mattered, because the relationship between locke and master chief is an important part of the story, as well as really paying attention to whether or not master chief is justified in his quest. (and the conclusion is that maybe he should have let other people help him rather than trying to do everything his way) I didn’t expect the quality of writing and interesting choices in the plot, and I didn’t expect awesome characters like Exuberant Witness. I also didn’t expect this game to introduce the most interesting (and surprisingly terrifying) villain in the entire series.
I personally loved it. A lot of people have made great points… need more chief, cliffhanger yada yada but in the end I just loved it. The music and the guns and the sights and sounds really pushed me to just clapping my hands at the end of a mission and being like…That was awesome. I had fun.
While I wouldn’t call it epic I found myself playing each mission wanting to find out what happens. It was a good not great story and was fun and engaging.
I dont like the story at all. The plot sounds good on paper but the execution was terrible.
the gameplay however was fantastic. The improved weapons, the scenery, the new/improved enemies, the crazy amount of stuff to find made it super replayable and one of the best campaigns (gameplay wise) to date. Cant wait to keep going on the campaign again tomorrow morning.
I personally did, thoug I see why many may not. It is heavy in external lore, and the lack of blue team missions may be a turn off. I still enjoyed it due to the fact that the missions held some wait to them, even the walk around ones. Getting to see a elite warrior mourning session was definitely a treat from a long term fan.
I went into the campaign knowing nothing about the story and liked it. I was disappointed in how little you got to play as Master Chief, the general lack of UNSC weapons aside from the start of missions or the one based in a UNSC location, and the A.I is really stupid sometimes. I really like the way they implemented co-op and how the in-game mechanic for that works in solo, the abilities are really fun to use, and I like that the weapons that were last resorts in 4 are actually useful now.
It is very sad for the strange position “ex-girlfriend”, and incredibly small amount of time allotted MasterChief.
Feeling like I was cheated. Disappointed? Maybe. I will continue to wait …
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was okay not having Chief around that much, I am hoping Spartan Locke can become the new main face of the Franchise…Chief has been around long enough.
I tire of the frustrating Promethean teleporting on legendary as they get weaker. Seriously it seems like making them spam this ability was the only way of making them harder. Or maybe this is just an issue for me?
I did love the return of the covenant. However, the Warden was repetitive and having to fight him numerous times became boring. I felt like they had an amazing story to tell in the lead up to release and all the content they released beforehand yet in the final game hardly any of it was actually there, not to mention the numerous plot-holes and contradictions of previous halo instalments. I was very excited beforehand with everything they were saying the campaign was going to be and in the end I found it to be abysmal and a large let down. I have enjoyed every other Halo campaign far, far more than this one.
I was really excited to see the development of the Osiris and to have a new group of spartan heroes yet their character development was severely lacking, as was any background on Blue Team meaning unless you had read the books you knew basically nothing about them. While I was expecting the campaign to be slightly more from Osiris’ point of view, the lack of content/story for Chief and Blue Team was abhorrent.
I was convinced I wasn’t going to like it, after reading all the “campaign sux” reviews from gamers here and “journalists” alike. But, I actually enjoyed it. More so than Halo 4’s campaign.
I was genuinely curious about what Chief was up to, and wanted to know what the heck was going on with Cortana. I loved the inclusion of previous characters such as Buck, Arbiter, and of course, Blue Team. I felt like a lot of the campaign finally paid attention to the original trilogy, and helped bridge it better with the Reclaimer one. I was definitely NOT expecting the main enemy to be who it was, and the cliffhanger ending made me just as excited as Halo 2’s cliffhanger ending did, if not more.
I can understand too though while others may not be too fond of it. Like stated above, it did focus VERY heavily on the “extended universe”, I think a bit too much. I’ve pretty much followed all external Halo lore pre-Halo 4, but have been slacking lately. As such, I had no idea why Prometheans were still roaming the galaxy freely, if the Didact was alive/dead, how John met up with the rest of Blue Team, what the “Domain” was, or the origins of Vale and Tanaka (not even sure if their origins were mentioned elsewhere). And even though I actually, in a way, enjoyed Blue Team not getting much game-time, I definitely understand the frustration that Chief and co were not playable very long. This was definitely Locke’s story, with Chief’s partially and weirdly blended it. I also didn’t like the three 60-second-long “missions”. I feel like that was a sort of cheap shot for 343 to make the campaign sound longer than it actually was. Those “missions” should have been (and basically were) just interactive cut-scenes.
All-in-all though, I really did enjoy it and can’t wait to see what 6 brings. Also…
The “way to fight Cortana and the Guardians” will be the Halo rings somehow. Calling it now!
In my opinion the entire campaign is riveting from start to finish. I loved the characters and felt everyone was where they needed to be at the right time. Cutscenes were done beautifully and the production was stunning. I am thrilled to see this campaign so well done…one down side though is for those who don’t know the lore, I really do believe they could’ve spent a bit of time refreshing everyone’s mind of some stuff, but other than that this is a great game.
I liked it but bit too short,I played on medium difficulty just to find out the ending and now I will play on easy to locate all skulls and Intel.
Then do a 3rd play through on Legendary.
Gameplay wise, This is easily one of the better Campaigns. Same goes for Mission Design and Mission variety.
However, The story and characters do suffer. Mainly because there wasn’t enough time devoted to this, Or it was just rushed out in some quick exposition.
