Did you care about Cortana's Plight?

A couple of weeks ago I finished halo 4 and found the “emotional story”…well not that gripping. I especially found the “I’ve been waiting for you you to say that” section with cortana cringe worthy.

But I never blamed the writters, after all Im not an emotional sort of guy and I usually laugh at games attempts to pull my heartstrings(The kidnapped kid in Heavy Rain, The child who was killed in Mass effect 3)

But I just finished The walking Dead recently and to my shame, I found myself tearing up a bit at certain parts.

What did The walking Dead do that Halo 4 didnt? Both were aiming for an emotional experience yet only one ended up being successfull. Why?

LMAO @ the battlefield 3 scene in france with the little boy and the camcorder. so predictable

edit: maybe it was MW3 i was thinking about, i forget

I teared up a bit at the end. Otherwise, I hate Cortana so no. Hopefully, she remains dead

I knew it was coming years ago, so it wasn’t as emotional.

Well, Halo 4’s story did grip me. But I think that it could have been better executed.

The Walking Dead game is a 98% story-based video-game, and I have to say The Walking Dead has incredible voice-acting and dialogue. Not to say that Halo 4 didn’t have that, though :stuck_out_tongue:

probably the fact that cortana is not a real person. she is just a projection of data and light. and although she touches chief, it is just hard light, all she is is data streams.

the walking dead at least has real people… somewhat.

Oh god, the biggest contrived way of getting a rise. Kill a kid.

The same could be said about the characters in the Walking dead, they were as real as Cortana if were talking about fictional characters yet 10 hours with Clamantine ended up having a more profound effect on me than 7 years with Cortana.

Yes. :frowning:

I was reduced to tears the first time I saw the ending. The only other story that ever brought me to tears was The Green Mile.

Not at all. Heck, I barely remember the story. It was terrible in my opinion. And I’m opening myself up to flaming here, but I personally loved Reach’s story. Far superior to Halo 4’s in every way.

My problem started at the very beginning when Cortana had that tremendously worried expression while waking up 117. I saw NO reason at all why she would act like that. It was just weird, man. I STILL find it weird.

And then her rampancy was basically shown to only be her going bzzzzzt a couple of times per stage and nothing more. And like i said before, she even used her rampancy as an advantage to take down the Didact. So there was never really and real representation of her deterioration. It was simply a part of the story that was there and had very little effect.

And then the EXTREMELY cheesy ending just went over the line for me… I wanted to touch you for so long? WTF!!!

The whole thing about being a man or machine came out of nowhere.

This story was just too detached from the Halo universe we know.

You wanna know something weird? The only time I ever felt something remotely emotional with Halo was when Johnson died because its JOHNSON !!! and Halo 3’s ending.

I especially love Halo 3 ending because it didnt try to add any emotion or extra dialouge, Master Chief just said “Wake me when you need me” which gaood enough to show that he cared.

Is that the movie with Tom Hanks where this dude has supernatural powers and Tom Hanks is his jail guard or something? Yeah…very touching movie…and I did in fact teared up not because she died, but because she was sacrificing herself for the Chief.

P.S. Shes not dead :stuck_out_tongue:

After the destruction of New Phoenix, and the death of Cortana, Master Chief must carry on.

-Epilogue Description

I never cry over video games. I agree with OP. Although I did find the story somewhat exciting with Lasky(because of Forward Unto Dawn) I never really cared for Cortana in this game. Halo 3 was more gripping because he leaves Cortana in the Covenant City and in Halo 3, he comes back and it’s all emotional. In this game, you see her the entire time and you always seem to not get enticed. Although Cortana is something to look at, it didn’t seem that sad to me.

You didn’t watch FUD, did you? All the little flashes at the start of each episode? And also two episodes of Halo Legends. It’s clear that right after Chief went to sleep, she knew she was going rampant.

She was going rampant in Halo 3 but that STILL doesnt explain why would she be freaking out when waking up 117.

Well ya she was probably my favorite character and honestly Halo 3 was worse off for only having her for 1.5 levels and was probably the only reason i was ever able to tolerate the 2nd to last level.

I went with “meh”

She looks too different from the other Halo games so I can barely see her as being Cortana. Makes me sad since I really like her character.

As someone else pointed out, why is she so scared in the beginning? I mean she had a conversation with the grave-mind at the end of Halo 2 and she didn’t care yet shes worried about an energy scan?!

Also, IMO, in Halo 1-2-3 she looked like a hero.

In Halo 4, she looks like a helpless woman.
