There is lots of good in Halo 4, but there are also a lot of glaring omissions that have people scratching their heads. For example, no theater for campaign or Spartan Ops. No online access to our fileshare content. No replacement for Bungie Pro’s rendering capability. I can’t see what games my friends are playing so I can decide if I want to join them. Limited custom game options.
I see other issues as well. My first thought was, why did they leave so much out? But then it occurred to me that unlike Bungie, which could build each new Halo based on what they’d done in previous Halos, maybe 343i had to do all this from scratch or nearly so, which could be asking a lot from a first major game release. I can’t think of any other good explanation.
No, I don’t think we expected too much. I just think they flat out missed some the most important things in halo game. Important things in general, which is why plenty of peeps are complaining.
I expected them to stick to the core framework of the game while piling armor abilities and loadouts on top of it with a working fileshare and mostly the same custom games options.
I honestly don’t think that is too much to expect.
Halo was not Bungie’s first game. However, Halo 4 is 343’s first game. Plus the fact that there was only a 2 year period between Reach and the release of this game (compared to 3 years for past Halo titles).
So while I too raged about the broken file share system, along with other missing things like Campaign/Spartan Ops theater and scoring, I am a bit forgiving seeing how this is their first game. And they did say in one of their bulletins before launch that they were treating title updates very differently from past Halo titles, so I have faith that some, if not all, of these issues will be fixed in the future.
i expected as much as halo 3, a game launched 5 years ago.
obviously I was disappointed.
no ranks
weird playlists
no co-op theatre
no sound in clips
no theatre for forge/campaign
no skulls in campaign
no option to change spawn timers
no option to play assault
no option… GOD WTF WHY COULDnt THEY JUST COPY AND PASTA IT OFF?
> Bungie’s Halo games had a ton of issues. People forget that.
name 5 in halo 3/reach.
I know there was a couple minute changes in reach, it wasn’t really an issue tho
in halo 3 the only thing they changed was beatdowns which wasn’t an issue either.
The only time I seem to be able to play effectively is during the time of day when I usually have to work. Otherwise, I’m matched up almost exclusively against Europe or Aussie players depending upon the time of day. That’d be fine and all, but for the fact that this usually renders half their team or so unkillable. Earlier I actually played a game where a guy laughed and took no damage as I followed him around shooting him with the DMR. A full clip no less, and then a ghost came spiraling out of the sky and crushed me. At least that particular instance was kind of funny…
When games change developers, there are ALWAYS hiccups involved. 343 is not Bungie. Playing through 4 1/2 halo games under Bungie before Halo4 came out spoiled us. Bungie had a LONG time to get things as good as they were. Look at the difference between Halo:CE and Halo3.
I am expecting the same improvement from 343i. They’re new, and I did not expect them to have everything Reach or Halo3 had. Honestly, the overshot my expectations, especially as far as campaign goes (best FPS campaign I’ve played). They will get better. It will just take time.
It’s like buying a new car and after driving it for a while, realizing that it doesn’t have cruise control, A/C, or a radio. We buy a car to easily and conveniently get from point A to point B. And while those things don’t help us accomplish that goal, it’s kind of just expected to be there. We’ve had those in past halo games, and those things we’re all great things that added to game. If they had been problems that hurt that game in some way, we would understand. But when you have something that works well, why would you take it out?
We expected these things because we understand that you don’t take away good things from games. That’s true with any company or product. So no, I don’t think we expected to much.
> Bungie’s Halo games had a ton of issues. People forget that.
Bungies’ games always had issues, but never so many and so serious in one game.
For instance Bungie would never just remove a classic mode like Assault or restrict gameplay like the new CTF.
We never expected too much. H4 should have been a cakewalk, the mistakes in the game are obvious that even the most basic of testing would have revealed. For example broken options and broken Forge, these are the sorts of things that you can find out through testing that have nothing to do with gameplay opinion.
It is just things such as the lack of playlists that get me upset. Like those are pretty simple things to figure out yet they are totally failing at them. They could have looked back at Halo 2, 3 and Reach to see what people liked to play.
Also my main thing is MAPS. These are horrible, horrible maps. And to go along with the map problem the new lobby where people vote between 3 maps, it leads to me having to play the same maps over and over and over again. I just can’t stand playing Complex, Valhalla, or Haven match after match after match after match.

Halo 3:
Your Spartan’s armor would reset to the default Mark VI during gameplay.
The Ranking system allowed for de-rankers to grief newcomers and possibly turn them away from Halo 3’s ranked playlists.
Some maps had power-ups that spawned at initial spawns for players, like Guardian. The game basically gives one team Overshields and another Active Camo, unlike the Pit, where you actually have to earn it.
The EXP system in Halo 3 only rewards the winners, and even if the losing team had the MVP of the round, they would get nothing. Of course, Winners should still get rewarded, but MVPs should get a +1 bonus no matter which team they’re on.
5.Only three playlist are available for those without all of the DLC.
My personal biggest problem: THEY TOOK OUT SQUAD BATTLE, MY FAVORITE PLAYLIST!
Halo Reach:
Armor Lock, which could break close-quarters combat and bring the pace of the game to a grinding halt.
Frag Grenades had the same damage as in Halo 3, but since you do not regenerate health completely in Reach, if you were slightly wounded, just one grenade could kill you.
In Vanilla, Melee attacks didn’t bleed through, which meant if you brought someone down to 10% shields, they could smack you, you smack back, but they strike a second time and kill you while you only popped their shields.
Bloom was also pretty bad in Vanilla. Even if you did pace your shots, the reticule always demanded a few second cool down before it could be accurate again, which was aggravating if you were in a medium-range encounter.
DLC playlists passed away and now all of the Defiant and Anniversary achievements that require you to do specific things on specific maps are almost impossible to do now by normal means.
My personal biggest problem: They took out Anniversary BTB and Squad, which allowed people to play these classic Halo maps with TU Reach settings. Now, we can only do 4v4 with Classic settings.

I hope you realize that even tho that is true that the game had 3-4 years of development? The only halo games to have the much was ce and wars, and that is because they both had huge changes in the middle of development.

First off, in Halo 3 your armor would not reset while you were playing in a match.
2.Derankers would not make newcomers mad because newcomers never got derankers on their teams. You do not derank at level 1.
I’m not really sure what you’re getting at. Is this supposed to be bad?
4.That’s what life is all about. Team there is no I in team. When you start rewarding individual performance it makes players only care about themselves and not about winning.
When Halo 3 came out you did not need any DLC for a while. Even when they did release DLC there were not only 3 playlists for people without it to play in. They used the same thing 343 is using, DLC playlists.
You can make up lies about Halo reach but do not lie about halo 3
