Did they lie about ADS?

Correct me if I’m wrong but when 343 first showed gameplay of Halo 5’s MP people were concerned when seeing aiming down sights in the gameplay, 343 came out and more or less said (as I said correct me if I’m wrong) aiming down sights worked like the DMR, BR,sniper etc from previous Halos, through a scope that is triggered when clicking the thumb stick (called the smart scope, I think) and not the usual mechanic we see in CoD, BF or any other game that follows that style. But after playing the beta aiming down sites is…aiming down sites. It’s works the way they said it wouldn’t. So whats up with that?

It is indeed different from ADS in CoD, BF, and the like in the sense that there is no penalty to movement (in most games, aiming makes you move slower).

It does, however, affect the accuracy (reduces spread of automatic fire from AR and SMG). Hope this answered your question.

do you have to hold the scope button in order to stay scoped in?

that’s what I hate about ADS

I dont understand what you mean by this as i use bumper jumper and that routes SMART SCOPE, not ads to my right stick, and it works the way it has in every halo game, it just zooms in with a ADS skin. De-scope is there, if anything halo 4’s zoom is more ADS than halo 5 due to no de-scope.

no, you don’t.

yes you do

This will likely be an option in the control settings (which seems pretty in-depth, with options like holding/pressing jump button for clamber, controller setups that have right stick/left trigger to zoom, and I believe I’ve caught a glimpse of an “auto-stabilizer” option).

Is that how it is by default or do you have to change it to that? I don’t have a problem with it, but I heard someone say you do have to hold down the button to stay scoped in and that’s really the only thing that would spoil it for me.

No you don’t, default configuration is like that just to attract modern fps peeps. A majority of the control schemes do not have to hold down button…

Is it left trigger zoom or classic right stick zoom?

Right stick, LT is still grenades.

Interesting. I really can’t wait to play the beta.

Another point to add to this is that descope is in the game.

Visually though, it looks like ADS, and I feel that’s off putting to me and seemingly many others

I don’t see how they lied… Penalty is a negative thing… like a punishment.

Reducing the spread of bullet is a great thing. Makes you shoot more accurately. That’s not a penalty as it’s not a “punishment.”

The only thing 343 said about Smart Scope was:

“No penalty to hip fire in H5, no movement penalty when scoping/zooming, no flinch. Tune in for the beta gameplay reveal at #HaloFest Monday.”

Hip fire is officially outclassed in every aspect by zooming in with the ADS system. ADS in Halo 5 significantly reduces the bullet spread of almost all known Halo 5 weapons according to pre-Beta gameplay.

You are either ignorant or incredibly dishonest. De-scope renders it very risky and difficult to constantly use Smart Scope, just like past Halo games. And the weapons spread was always tightened when you zoom. The way you fire your weapons has barely changed AT ALL.

For everybody thinking that having smart scope tied to left trigger makes it the same as COD, here’s a newsflash for you, changing the control scheme so that it’s like previous games magically makes it like previous games. The ONLY differences are a MINOR decrease to bullet spread on two weapons and aesthetics on all the others. Please relax, it doesn’t break the game at all. Just cause it’s mapped to a different button by default doesn’t change the way it works.

Its effectively the same as zooming in like in Halo 3 i.e. the auto aim range shifts, and bullet spread is tightened up slightly, but hip fire still remains very accurate. It cosmetically looks like popular ADS animations.
